Bangladesh to sell MiG fighters
Bangladesh is to sell a sizeable portion of its strike airforce because of maintenance costs.
The prime minister, Khaleda Zia, said the government had decided it could no longer afford the upkeep of eight MiG-29 fighter jets out of a total complement of three and a half squadrons.
The MiGs were bought from Russia two years ago for about $124m.
The decision to sell them follows the publication of a government white paper on corruption within military procurement in which the former prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, was implicated.
She has denied any wrongdoing.
