The story of her rise from unqualified schoolgirl, through hairdressing to ATC and ultimately to Concorde Pilot is inspirational.
It is so sad that, just like the Aircraft she was destined to fly, she has been taken before her time.
My condolences to her family and friends

I didn’t realise Ms Hamer existed as a female Concorde pilot either. I didn’t think there were any.
Still, I plan to read up on her out of respect for her pioneering memory.

Never realised that Concorde had female pilots, however very sad to see that she has passed away. Reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Harmer shows what you can achieve in life if you put your mind to it. A girl who leaves school with no qualifications and subsequently flies from the left hand seat of Concorde gets my admiration any day! Long may her memory live on.

RIP
Very sad news. My dad told me that she’d only just retired from BA a few years ago.
