There seems to be a wealth of lo-co flights to Barcelona these days from most of the UK airports. Anyone fancy a day trip to El Prat sometime over the summer ?

On the 3rd Sunday of June, there is a small airshow at Sabadell, the smaller airfield of Barcelona ( 2 C990 Coronado’s of Spantax there (more or less)). As I am the entire month in the aerea, I am going there on Sundaymorning.
And on robbery, the “Plaza de Catalunya” and the “Ramblas” is very infamous for robbery. I was “under attack” twice, one time my entire photjacket was cutted open with a knive , the second time two girls tried to pick pocket me in the train. Both time i noticed it and nothing was stolen.

Well I’m thinking of making it a least a two day event. I’ve spent an entire week in Barcelona before and a one day hit is looking tricky from GLA. I intend to spend some quality spotting time at El Prat and some quality time in el centro de ciudad.:D I’ll formulate my holiday leave and flight plan within the next few days. I’ll probably have to wait until March wages day though to pay for it.

Infact….. The beach is quite awesome, as well as the usual beach “eye candy” and attractions, if aircraft are landing from the North they fly parallel to the beach presumabley offering good photo opportunities with a decent lens. Although, sat on a beach with a camera and binocs may get you into trouble !!!

Hey robbery to tourists !!! I think a cafe in Paris last week demonstrated robbery ! 9 euro’s for a cup of tea and a cup of coffee, whats that then in £ ??? say about £6ish … Is that daylight robbery !!
On a more serious note, I think you are liable to muggings anywhere in the world you go. As long as you are vigilant and sensible about matters then you should be OK. As you can imagine in BCN there were 8 of us and post-night time we could have been mugged by anyone !. The nearest we came to a mugging is when we came out of a night club and were accosted by prostitutes. Barcelona prostitutes seem to extremely over friendly and as one of my friends nearly found out when he was engaging in what he believed to be a threesome. One groped his “frontals” another grabbed his hands placed them on her anatomy whilst the other tried to frisk his back pockets. Fortunately he and the rest of us became wise and moved on before any damage was done. (PS we weren’t on the lookout for these type of women – they do just literally “grab you”). Another of my mates spent the night asleep on the beach and returned next morning unscathed.
So as I mentioned, If there is you are in a group and keep your wits about you you should be fine, as I’m sure in any city / town in the world.

Got any stats to prove that?

All good unless you get robbed!!!

Since the last 15 years or so, I live 2 to 3 months a year at 40 km from Barcelona, but on aviation related things there is almost nothing to do, so what’s the reason to go there in June??? BW Roger

If it’s that cheap and we are travelling about 700 miles for it, would it be possible for some of us to stay a couple of days?
By: grahamskipton - 21st February 2004 at 22:34
I visited BCN last summer on my stag weekend. It wasnt an aviation trip though as im sure can imagine!!! We flew LHR to BCN on an Airbus A319 and returned BCN – LGW on a 737-400.
Ren, I may have a few phone numbers of Barcelona residents that I met there that may put you up !!!! …. Oh hang on, the misses threw them out !! 😀 Only Joking. No seriously though we stopped in a youth hostel in BCN for about £8 per night (although we didn’t all stop there every night !!!) so if your looking for cheep and cheerful I can give you the address.
I would love to go back to BCN (on the aviation theme !) , Just about to start a new job so it may be tricky getting some time out so early in…..
Take Care all

T5, don’t get too excited about the 767s, they are arguably the worst planes in the BA fleet pax wise 🙁

I’ll probably have to overnight as all the day return flights I can find are arriving and leaving again with a one hour turnaround time.
Yippee !:D
