We are writing a family history and I was checking some details on my grandfathers family history last night.
My father told me that of the 5 brothers 3 were called up and two were not. My grandfather was a haulier in Glasgow and so was in a protected employment and was one of the two not called up.
As a haulier he was at the beck and call of the MOD for various jobs.
He said that one job was to deliver a load of specially milled and sieved sawdust. It was for the bouncing bomb.
Not sure how he knew this or whetehr it was subsequent information.
A check showed that the demo bombs were made with sawdust. So possibly this was a special grade to ensure that it rotated correctly.
After the war the family also knew Ramensky – the commando safe breaker as one of the uncles was an RSM with REME.

Oh well – he designed some nice aircraft even if he couldn’t spell his name properly.
Apologies to all.
Mods – can you change the spelling in the thread title please ?
Any more detail on the content rather than my dodgy spelling ?
Interesting use of capital letters!

This is what I found
These dummies contained no explosives, and the empty steel casings were filled with concrete, with stories of some having been made of wood, constructed and filled with wood, sawdust, and glue by CE Morris Furniture of Glasgow
