I have been reading the thread about the FAAM restoration of DP872 . This started me wondering what became of the Barracuda wreckage recovered from the sea just off Highcliffe( nr Christchurch) on 4 June 1968?
The wreckage was taken to the MEXE site after recovery and , working for the MPBW at nearby SRDE , I and a couple of other aircraft nuts were able to go and view it.
I believe the remains went to Yeovilton …but can anyone confirm this?
The aircraft was I believe ….RJ762 Barracuda TBR3 750Sq and the ditching date was 20 June 1952.

That chunk of wreckage in the 1981 article looks remarkably similar to that from 1968…. look at Flight’s images from then….

Interesting the claim that a Liberator with airborne lifeboat was seen. Surely they must have meant a similarly equiped Shackleton.
I doubt there were any B-24’s flying around that part of the world in the 50’s.

That’s quite interesting, it piqued my interest as my parents had a bungalow at Barton-on-sea.
