BAs fares

I have to go to LGW next week but only require a one-way fare MAN-LGW. The web fares on the BA web site are only available if purchasing a return ticket. The one-way fare is over 100 punds more than the return.

It looks like I am going to have to book a return and just waste the LGW-MAN portion of the ticket. Sheer stupidity or what? No other airlines fly from north of England into LGW so it looks like Im going to have to pay for two journeys when I just want one.

You have to be very careful with that from now on. I’m not sure if it was BA or VS he was talking about, my boss has found out when booking his next trip that the airline was changing its terms and conditions and that anyone who failed to honour the return leg of their trip would from now on be charged for the price of a single ticket- i.e. they’ll charge your credit card for the difference.

I’ll try to find out which airline he was referring to.

In which case, you’ll need to book a return trip and turn up at the airport 5 minutes before departure, hoping to check in. “Bugger”, you’re too late, so it looks like you’re not going anywhere.

This policy(which I can hardly believe) is absolute rubbish; if you’ve paid for a return ticket then it shouldn’t matter whether you actually use the return portion. Supposing you book a return ticket which you plan to use then genuinely can’t make the return flight due to force majeure. I doubt the legality of charging your credit card at a later date for a no-show.
I have heard of people booking a return tkt on the basis that the outward portion wouldn’t be used; when the passenger didn’t show up the airline cancelled the entire booking.

I need to get to LGW not LHR so BA are my only choice. I cant be doing with flying to LHR and then getting bus to LGW is a f*****g nightmare and if I were to do that it would be quicker to walk to LGW!

No it looks like they have got me by the short and curlies! I will have to pay for a return and just waste the return ticket. its a shame though and a waste of money.

I’ve heard Short haul fares are being increased by around 1 pound to 1 pund 50. Long haul fares around 4 pound.
