Basiq and Norwegian announce STN Routes

New budget airline flies from UK

The new service would fly from Stansted to Amsterdam
A new budget airline is to operate in the UK for the first time, it has been announced.

Dutch carrier Basiq Air will begin twice-daily services between Stansted airport in Essex and Amsterdam on 26 May, with an introductory one-way fare of nine euros (about £6.30).

The airline is part of Transavia Airlines, which is 80% owned by Dutch national carrier KLM.

Basiq stepped in after budget airline Buzz, now owned by Ryanair, pulled off the route earlier this year.

‘Leisure and business’

“We are intending to cater for both leisure and business travellers,” said Basiq’s marketing and sales executive vice president Gerard Helming.

Basiq was started in December 2000 and has 26 planes.

It already flies to France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Transavia operated scheduled services between Gatwick airport and Amsterdam from 1986 to 2000.

Meanwhile, Scandinavian airline Norwegian. No, formerly called Busy Bee, is to start five-times-a-week Stansted to Oslo services on 4 June.

Thanks for the info Dan777. I quite fancy trying out Slovakia itself. It would be a shame, in my opinion, if the airline was to transport people to Slovakia only for them to then travel out of the country to a neighbouring land.

However, I can see the appeal of Vienna being so close and I don’t suppose the airline will mind as long as there are bums on them seats!!

A million brownie points will be awarded to the first person to book a flight to Bratislava with this airline and report it on this thread.

Now, there’s a competition!!!

Wingflaps2 – I look forward to our brithdays too 😀

SkyEurope, Slovakias low-cost airline is to start a new Bratislava to London Stansted service on 11th July. This will be the first non-stop flight ever between London and Slovakia. A Boeing 737-500 will be used with 133 seats. Fares from £17 single excluding tax – roughly £54.55 return with tax.

Timetable

1,3,5 Bratislava – London Stansted
08:00 – 09:25 NE120

1,3,5 London Stansted – Bratislava
10:10 – 13:20 NE121

SkyEurope will also start a 3 times weekly service from Bratislava to Paris Orly on August 22nd 2003.

I’m sure this route will be a success and with Vienna only an hour away by bus – 60km. Good Luck to them!

Be warned to expect things to be expensive though. A 500ml of fizzy drink/water is about £1.50 (for example).
Take enough money. They accept Euros in CPH.

Have a great time on our birthdays!

Duesseldwarf

Thanks for the advice! I cant wait to go to Copenhagen. I’m flying easyjet STN to CPH and staying for 1 night – Copenhagen seems a great place. I plan to go to Malmo for the day by train on the Oresund Bridge

I look forward to getting the “wine gums”

Copenhagen is great. I hope you enjoy it as much as Wingflaps2 and myself did. We were there on 30th April for a day, after having flown to Malmö and then getting a bus over the Oresund Bridge into Copenhagen. The ‘scenery’ in Copenhagen is impressive too!! A nice and easy city to see on foot.

Look out for afore-un-mentioned confectionary called “Spunk”. You’ll probably be glad to hear that they are simply wine gums!! 😀

Dean.

Cheers for that info EGNM!

Dusseldwarf and I are off to Amsterdam for my birthday on 9th July (for the day). Scandinavia is lovely. You can also pick up some confectionery in Scandinavia with rude British words as the brand name. Not mentioning them though!!
