Bassingbourne Airfield, what's left?

I drove through the village of Bassingbourne in Cambridgeshire a few weeks ago and couldn’t find the airfield. Checking it out on Google maps it would appear some of the taxiways and hard stands still exist.
What else survives and are there any memorials?

I have vague recollections of going to an airshow at Bassingbourn in the mid to late 70’s (?)

There was a show at Bassingbourn in May 1978, if you search on Abpic there are some photo’s of the day and some others when the RAF were there.

Sorry, I thought this was an aviation forum, not a spelling competition.

hampden………..

Indeed it is an aviation forum but that should not prevent us striving to spell correctly and use correct grammar and punctuation…………

Hampden, it’s actually “Westish” of Duxford if that helps.

This article sums up what is available in the public domain.

Facilities such as the dry ski slope had been identified as long term keepers, however The Snow Sports Centre were also recently served notice to quit by April 2013 unless they can find an access that does not pass through the MOD site.

But if you are googling or using some route finders, incorrect spelling may well lead you astray; that is all I am trying to suggest as a possible solution to your not finding it.

Was the OP in the correct village?

He does mention somewhere called Bassingbourne, whereas the airfield is most definitely in Bassingbourn.

Moggy

The place east of Duxford, ish? Is that correct?
BTW I also couldn’t find Madingly even though I have been there once before!
I was wondering if they took all the signs down (for madingly) because of the Olympic Games. Security maybe?
