I was having a little day dream today about what the possibilities would be of celebrating the UK release of the film by having it shown at a local cinema.
The date of course being Monday 15th September 1969.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what might be required?
For instance are there any copies of the film available that could be shown on modern cinema equipment and how to go about hiring a cinema etc.
I know Duxford have shown it at their cinema before but I wondered if it might be possible to widen the audience shall we say.
Probably a pie in the sky idea but if if you don’t ask and all that…
Cheers.

A few years ago, a little family-run cinema in Edinburgh put on a proper event, with talks from veterans, historians and enthusiasts, followed by a screening of the film (on the biggest screen, too!).
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

Thanks for all the input guys but I’ve heard through the grapevine there are other ideas afoot and I’d hate to tread on anyones toes. I’ve put the idea on hold for the moment so might just do something locally if I can.

A few years ago I managed to get my local art house cinema (Hull Screen) to show Way to the Stars and Journey Together, both of which were available (35mm prints) from the BFI.
First thing to do is find your nearest art house cinema and have a word with the manager. You can also find out if the BFI have a copy of Battle of Britain (35mm or digital print). Problem though, they will probably have already scheduled September. Word of warning: old war films are not everyone’s cup of tea, so get the word out: ATC, RAFA, local newpaper/s and radio. I think we had maybe 10 people turn up for each showing.
regarding the poster, they are going for around £400 for an original QUAD, so I’m reworking my own in Photoshop, albiet as a 12in x 16in print. If you manage to secure a print and a venue I’ll email you a copy.

I saw it in the cinema at the RAF museum at their BoB weekend last year. Was a great atmosphere as everyone knew the lines!!

I wouldn’t mind an outdoor screening of BoB at Duxford some warm summer night.
Set it up on the grass near the tower…have a Spitfire parked nearby.
Sounds like fun.

Was given an outing in our local Cineworld on the 27th and 28th April this year, (which I unfortunately missed due to being out of the country), so can be done.

Doesn’t many cinemas offer to screen movies direct from DVD these days?

Keith & Peter a great idea !
BlueNoser352 here :
Great idea men and if I lived in the UK and has seen this fine film many times ..would be neat to see it on a full movie screen. If nothing else to remember and honor that generation of ” The Few” for what they did. I tired to do this here in the US with ” The Longest Day” really before vhs & dvd came along in the early 80’s ..talked to several movie houses but the management didn’s see to interested! Good luck on your venture and would be a great way to raise money for a needy charity ! Good luck on your idea men…….. go gett’em !
