I accidentally came across this 8mm footage of the Battle of Britain film Buchons just recently. I didn’t see any sign that a link to this had been posted yet so I thought that I should, especially since the Edwards collection Buchons are on the move again after a long hibernation. Said to be art director Alan Tomkins personal footage. Some fascinating views of the BoB fleet being painted and modified in preparation for filming and glimpses of interesting figures such as Bader, though I couldn’t identify them all. Great stuff.

I am fortunate in that Alan is a good personal friend of mine and he has been involved in many epic films along the way.
He is currently helping me with a little project right now.
he has written a great book about some of his film experiences with a very self explanatory title called “Stars and Wars”, ISBN 978 0 7509 5617 8 published by The History Press at £25.00.
I will quietly ask him if he has any other BofB film bits although needless to say, the BofB is one of the films featured in the book.

Thanks for posting that, had not seen it before. Hopefully more of it becomes available to view.

It isn’t just “said to be Alan Tomkins personal footage”, it IS the footage he shot. There’s a lot more and Connie has a lot as well but in far worse condition. Alan’s was shot whilst he was in Spain and looking for suitable locations and also later on at Duxford. Interestingly both locations have footage of torrential rain and waterlogged airfields showing that the rain in Spain falls mainly on the planes…

Thanks for that, very interesting. Obviously filmed in Spain. Connie Edwards can actually be seen towards the end. He’s in the cowboy hat!
