These were taken by my father at Duxford in 1968. The Chateau was i recall made of wood and had only one side i.e the front as shown. It was meant to represent an airfield in France but was actually situated on the far south western side of Dx.
The 109 in the hangar looking very sorry for itself was again i think at Dx but i don’t know anymore than that (any info on the accident would be welcome).

Im still waiting for the remaining HA.1112 to appear in formation at legends.
If only it was going to be in the film scheme though…

re
If it wasnt so well known about it being a replica, I wonder how many location hunters would try tracking the French House down? ; )
😀

thanks brian,
it hasn’t changed too much i guess.kev

The car park where the LDV / Home Guard drilled and Harvey parked his car are no longer there as you can see.
There is a little notice inside about the movie, but not a great deal.
However the beer is ok, so worth a brief visit if you are in the area.

Those are facscinating pictures. It must have been wonderful to get so close to the film fleet. Here are some photos my own father took over the fence at Duxford, although they are a bit grainy.

Welcome to the forum Tempest.
The Jackdaw as it looks now can be found here.

By all accounts it is not aviation orientated
There was a thread on here with all the locations, I will see if I can find it and post it here.

All that work and it’s only on-screen for a few seconds!
I always wondered, looking at the MkXIVs and XIXs in the movie, how much more of a hard time the RAF would have given the Germans had the Spit been fitted with the Griffon from the start! :diablo:
Something about the “MkXIVa” is very aesthetically appealing….

Thanks indeed for posting these shots.
As has been said, so nice to see some personal as opposed to production shots.
Thanks again.

hello all.
this is my first post, so go easy with me. great pictures from what must have been a very atmospheric period in duxfords history.
just sat down with my 3 year old daughter and watched this classic film, she was continually shouting “crash”!
while on the subject, anyone know the where-abouts of “the jackdaw” pub is?
keep up the great and varied threads you guys.

Didn’t the Buchon suffer a nasty groundloop during filming? I seem to recall a similar pic in one of Robert Rudhall’s books.
