BBC Look East, tonight 10th October, screened some out-takes from the BOB film in conjunction with a ‘film pilot’ interview/walkround MH434 at Duxford. Talk of ‘rare footage’ with flashes of EQ code Spitfires – SM411 and TB382
The pilot advised that he had flown in the film with just a temp guage and a firewall!!
Ashley any comment.
Was this a preview of the DVD Region 2 ‘add ons’ I wonder?
Sorry Moggy – no suspenders.

I recall there being a replica Hurricane from the ‘Battle of Britain’ film in the old museum at North Weald ran by Bill Miles about 20 years ago.No idea what happened to it though.Anyone else remember seeing it? I suppose a lot of the stuff they had there went to the current museum.
The original museum was situated in a few huts near the station entrance which were swept away a few years ago.Yet more of our heritage destroyed in the name of ‘progress’

This has been taken from the Civil Aircraft Markings 1995 edition.
I looked on this site and it does have the same airframe BAPC number 73.
http://www.bapc.org.uk/
I stand corrected as it states it is a full scale model.

Just discovered a BAPC register list in the back of my 14th edition of Wrecks & Relics; it includes a considerable number of replicas, mock-ups etc.

I dug one of my old books out today and found that the Hurricane was on the BAPC register, number 73, (replica, Qeens Head, Bishops Stortford)
Do you happen to know the current registration or anyone with a book of serial numbers with a BAPC register in?
Regards.
BP 😀 😀
im confused, I thought the BAPC inventory of aircraft was to label significant aircraft, if so, why on earth would an FSM Hurri be on there?
best regards, steve

“Battle of Britain” Region 2 DVD
I keep reading about this region 2 release for the B of B, I’m assuming this is the one that has all the goodie extra’s. Does anyone know if it’ll be released in a format that we can play here in Canada? I just picked up the movie not to long ago but there are no extras.
Thanks Gerry

It would be nice if someone in corporate-land would use this and also and remedy the truly execrable first pass at a Region 1 DVD release (see also the “Battle of Britain – The Remake” thread. There is a lot of moaning (and worse) on US Amazon about it. We can live in hope. The alternative is getting a tad p*ssed off at the suits and that tends to get us nowhere.
Time to send a few emails towards California I suppose…

😀 WAAAHAAY,when i was a kid i had an instamatic and i took this photo,30 years or so later i may have found the answer to it’s subject.
I just happened to stumble on this thread by mistake whilst searching for something else LOL.
Can anyone confirm it is the same place, many thanks,i do remember there being a pub and as my Aunt and Uncle live in Sawbridgeworth it seems more than possible. 😀
Tell me about it! The number of times I’ve started to look for something on the net and ended up studying something totally different which caught my interest in ‘passing’.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am it was an FSM from BofB. The 2 pictures were taken from the car park, the pub being to the right of the photographers. I believe I only went to that pub once, it was a bit out in the sticks from Hoddesdon where I lived then, and I guess that would be around 1975.
I’ve no idea what happened to it but I wouldn’t be surprised if it succumbed to the elements and fell to bits.
I am pretty sure this is the ex BoB film Hurricane replica that was aquired by Ted Sinclair and eventually found its way to NZ to be mounted in Keith Park’s markings.
I think we have had a post on this before. A couple of years ago.

Just how many Hurricane replicas did the film have then? A load seemed to be burned and blown up in the opening scenes. Two are in New Zealand, one on a pole at Motat which has been confirmed to me as a genuine film replica from Battle of Britain, and one at Omaka who’s website claims also came from the film.
It seems to me they must have ade at least half a dozen for the film. Apparently the Motat and Omaka examples have very different contraction methods. I think both are fibreglass skinned.

There are even the same trees behind it so it looks pretty conclusive to me. 🙂

Ashley,
I did tape the BBC Look East preview if you require it. This was part of the run up for this last weekend event.

Mark12…well this sounds new to me…certainly does not seem to be part of “The Battle for the Battle of Britain” (will double check my copy though to make sure)…I’m unaware of it coming from the IWM archives (particularly (sp?!?)as I work for the IWM Film and Video Archive :)) I will do some digging and find out where it was sourced…
Incidentially, the IWM does hold a reel of film (according to our database) of the Duke of Gloucester visiting Duxford during the filming of Battle of Britain…it’s not been fully accessioned yet and is part of a larger collection of material donated by the D of G or his family…one day I will root out this reel, have a gander and report back 🙂

Unless it’s a different Hurricane, I thought it was full-size but there was a fence around it. It was reputed to be from BofB.
It’s nearly 30 years ago but I thought it was at Green Tye, between Much Hadham and Sawbridgeworth. Can’t remember the pub name offhand but I should be able to find it somewhere.
