Hi all
Yesterday at the Shoreham Aircraft museum I picked the first three copies of a magazine called ‘Battle of Britain Remembered’.
This was published by ‘The Battle of Britain Historical Society’. The magazines are dated Nov 1999, Sept 2000 and Oct 2001.
My question is did this publication stop after issue 3? It’s just that there was quite an interesting article on Douglas Bader in the first two which was to have concluded with a third part which wasn’t in issue3.
Also do ‘The Battle of Britain Historical Society’ still exist and have they got a website by now?
Also can anyone confirm if Dilip Sarkar ever got his book on Bader out and what happened to Ramrod Publications?
Thanks for any help in advance
Andy

Dilip was writing Johnnie Johnson’s story in two parts, I think it was called Spitfire Top Gun? I have the first part but it is with a friend. The second hasn’t yet appeared as far as I know.
Generally, I find Dilip’s books very good. I have met him a few times at book launches and spoken to him several times on the phone while Ramrod were still going. He’s a very approachable chap. I’ve read I believe the Duxford book which was very interesting and I think the Bader photo book was largely about his work after the war and his role in inspiring those who have lost limbs.

Bader Books..
Hi all
Unfortunately the last part of the article would have covered the time that DB was shot down.
However, I did a search on ABE-Books last night and found that Dilip Sarkar might have written/published three Douglas Bader books.
One as sort of photo gallery and another about the Tangmere Wing and possibly a third about the Duxford Big Wing.
All these appear to be getting a bit pricey second hand so before I purchase any of them. Does anyone know if they’re any good??
Thanks in Advance
Andy
PS Kev35 was there a JJ article publishes as well? I don’t have any of this piece.

I believe Ramrod no longer exists, whether or not the second part of the Johnnie Johnson story will be published I have no idea. A Douglas Bader tribute was published a few years ago written by Dilip I believe. As far as I know Dilip was actively researching in a different field a few months ago.
As for the Battle of Britain Historical Society I almost joined but then felt it was not really for me. Just a feeling I had. Like Radar Archive, I was by that time involved in my own research so couldn’t really justify the expense.

As regards the magazines, I only have the first two issues, so I can’t help with the Bader article.
I did look into joining the Society, but its main aim seems to be to generate funds to create memorials etc, and thus the annual fee is pretty steep. It’s difficult to fund my own research, so I couldn’t justify such fees myself, but don’t let me put you off if you’re thinking of joining.
