Thats where I am going to have problems. Its written in the language of the veterans. These guys used old fashioned terms, but didn’t mean any harm. My uncle plays chess with black friends, but still uses un pc terms. I tell jokes with my Jewish friend, and hes fine with it.

I recall an raf officer telling me “there’s a yellow fellow looking for you”… i said its fine his dads north African. “Jolly good” the old chap replied. “As long as hes not a bloody jap. If he was, i would have shot him…”…

Sadsack – all very laudable but films these days cost a great deal of, usually, dollars to make and those who supply the dollars usually require them repaid with interest!!;)

I am writing a screenplay, tackling many of my objections to ww2 movies. Ie incredible veterans stories take priority over set pieces. Major facts are not sacrificed in favour of artistic license. Historical characters are researched from their diaries, and dont come across as figures from commando comics!

As well as not applying today’s obsession with being “PC” to the 40’s

I think a film about ww2 bomb disposal would be an interesting idea, something like Danger UXB, make an interesting change from ‘usual’ themes.

Funny, I have at least two or three ideas for war films. Whether or not they see the light of day depends on whether I can ever get them started.

Personally I don’t think the time constraints of a film would allow for sufficient detail.
I would much rather a series similar in style to ‘Band of Brothers’ that covers just one squadrons involvement in the BoB from July 10th to October 31st.
501 squadron would be a good example. Their ORB is fairly detailed for accuracy and there are numerous aircrew combat reports available to help visualise the aerial side of things. Additionally, there is sufficient film footage of aircrew being interviewed post battle to narrate the opening of each episode (in the same style as Band of Brothers).
The narrative would then allow viewers to engage with the different characters on the squadron and consequently feel a sense of personal loss as characters were killed in action.

The current trend for big/long novels is to do them in two parts. So….

A good film showing the input of the Czechs in the battle, shame about the mountains in the background though!

I was too busy looking at the aeroplanes… 😉

It would be nice maybe to see it from the Axis side,starting off with the youth and the carefree winning to the slow loss of morale both from the bomber crews as well.

If you want to make a good, modern aviation film, Dark Blue World is the way to go.

I watched it for the umpteenth time last night (and scary to think I first saw this almost 13 years ago!) and it STILL holds up beautifully when compared to the likes of Red Tails.

While I love Battle of Britain more than my own mother, it does have its faults. But that doesn’t mean I want to see it remade. It was, and still is, an epic in every sense of the word.

The story of the two young pilot’s relationship with the teachers from the French school could be where the saccharine is added.

The teachers would have to be played by big name stars though to add box office pull; Such as the girl from Hunger Games perhaps, and the Harry Potter girl?

It could indeed and I’d watch it! But I am not convinced that without a bit of Spielberg saccharine it would get enough distribution to earn its keep. And then you have lost the essence of the original.

The TV series managed it in six 1hr episodes – just.

Piece of Cake for the big screen? This time with Hurricanes.

I’d love to see this put on the big screen, it could be viable after all it does have an American who plays a good role, hopefully enough for US sales.
Some might not like the fact it steps away form the ‘usual’ format of BofB related films (the sense of constant high morale and a Battle of Britain equivalent of the ‘Blitz Spirit’)
