I’ve been searching the forum for a pic I’m sure I saw of a Spitfire IX in BofB movie markings, AI-S, and wearing the serial N3329.
Mark12 – maybe one of your’s?
Been hunting the past couple of hours and my eyeballs are going nuts! Someone put me out of my misery..!

Quite right, Iwas about to make the same remark when I read your post

Buchon Identities.
There seems be some light on the horizon. I have recently had specific requests from ‘Dave’ in New Zealand – ‘Yellow 5’, ‘Red 3’ etc and it is clear that he has the drop on the Buchon IDs. A well known aviation journal from ‘Downunder’ is currently publishing a multi-part piece on the 109 and I believe the Buchons and IDs will form a substantial part in due course.
It seems that the changing of unit markings on the Buchons during the filming was minimal compared with the Spitfires.

As a I know all the 3 bladers were like Penguins and did not fly!
They were purely there to taxy and pose in the ground scenes.

All I know was that some had 3 blade and some 4 blade props. (Apart from the 2 seater – that one’s easy…) Were all of both prop configs airworthy?

Just my thought, but I’d presume there’s practically no hope of identifying the Buchons, as they’re all the same mark, all were rebuilt at the same time (right?), and all were cosmetically altered for the film.
Unless they kept the same markings throughout, of course!

Interesting pic.
As we know the Spits can be a challenge to ID correctly, but what about the Buchons! Any hope?
Cheers

To keep this thread gently twisting.
This splendid image, from a 2.25 sq. positive, turned up in the post this weekend.
The group of 5 blade Spitfires in the centre are left to right PS853 AI-M, with the cabin blower intake on the port cowling, PM631 in the centre, by default, and RM689, with armoured front screen, AI-O or AI-Q, both new codes to me. AI-N to right of the pic is most probably MH415 the only flying Mk IX known to have carried this code.
To the unknown photographer – thank you.

I stand corrected, if amusingly.

Haha!
Good point. What I mean is that the boom sticks out midway up on the cabin, not inside at all…

Mark12 – I’m going to have a look at getting that MH415 pic resolution increased next week. Turns out I’d probably asked the wrong person, as he didn’t get back to me! Can’t get the staff, eh?? 😉
Sorry for the delay!

It’s a Hiller all right. The Hughes have the tail boom in the middle of the cabin.
By: JDK - 16th October 2003 at 23:30
The chopper is a Hughes 300 series, I think. Depending on the location, it’s probably nothing to do with the Spitfire Productions…

Septic,
A great shot.
AR213 in front of PM631.
Please tell us where this was taken.

Good spot Topgun. It’s NOT a Bell 47, but a Hughes something I think. (my boring helicopters of the world book eludes me at the mo…) What’s interesting is that it’s also NOT the helicopter documented as used by the film company which was an Aerospatiale Alouette (IIRC)
Cheers

Do you possibly have any more BoB shots from this or other photo ‘sorties’ at that time?
Septic Calling-Septic Calling. Over.
Hi Mark 12, I do have a fair few shots from the Bob Film, although my collection cannot match yours or Mr Rudhall’s.
If you email me off the board I will let you know what I’ve got.
Here’s another photo to keep you going.
Septic.

😀
But then again, I don’t have the book, so I’m not likely to find many names in it am I?
By: Mark12 - 15th October 2003 at 21:38
Quite!
By: Eddie - 15th October 2003 at 21:23
What?
I can’t find a “Mark Twelve” in the photo credits list!
