Hi
Could anyone clarify if at all possible whether Oblt Otto Schmidt (Pilot) and Oblt Julius Neuman (beobachter) were taken prisoners around August 1940 in the Sussex area, as apparently according to a letter dated 22/8/40 (that i currently have) stating that the airman were passed from Westhampnet to Tangmere via armed escort.
I really have my doubts on the authenticity of the letter in question. as i have up to now found references in the book “The Hardest Day” by Alfred Price stating a Julius Neumann after landing his damaged Me109 in and around the Sussex area being taken prisoner but not being an observer but a Pilot. also on the same day a Otto Schmidt Stuka pilot was on an operation that day but after returning back to France..
So unless there were to be other airman of these names around that time i very much doubt the authenticity of the letter in question.
i do have the option to return the letter in question.
Can anyone throw any light.
Many thanks again..
