Just wondering, with Battle of Britain day coming up, if we could see how many BoB themed threads we could get onto the forum for Monday 15th September?
Subjects can include anything to do with the Battle – aircraft, people, incidents, films, places etc.

Bumping it up to the top again.
And yes, I’ve had a think. Or more a realisation. You’ll see on Monday.
Hope everyone’s going to try and post something, or at the very least take some time during Monday to remember The Few. We owe them a hell of a lot.

I hope that all of you reading this will be using the rest of this week to think of, and put together, some suitable Battle of Britain themed thread, to be posted on the forum for Monday 15th September.
Take a look at Kev35’s post, there are some good suggestions there for what you could post. There could be a local or personal connection with your post, or it may be something/someone related to the battle that you feel has been forgotten, and of course, don’t ignore those who saw the battle out on the ground, such as groundcrews, AFS/NFS, ARP, and the civilian population.
So get your thinking caps on.

It’s strange it’s not commemorated more in the UK, here in Jersey and Guernsey we have a week of commemorations. Airshows in both islands on Thursday afternoon.
May be this is because the islands were occupied and today the locals treasure their freedom more.

Does anyone have a clear idea what is happening at North Weald
this Sunday ? (the 14th) Their website mentions a memorial service and fly in. Presumably the service takes place at the memorial by the museum and the fly in on part of the airfield but will they be connected?

“Good idea Ant, anything that can raise the profile of the BoB is worth doing. Do you have a link to the prog that can be posted on this thread?”
Agh!Meant to put that on my last post, thanks Geoff.

“How about the theme from the Battle of Britain followed by ‘Hymn to the Fallen’, just to put it all into perspective.”
Nice idea Kev.I was thinking we needn’t neccesarily all vote for the same piece (would look a little suspect!),we just choose what we each fancy hearing. The wider the variation of our requests the more chance there is of playing something on the right theme, and they do seem to have a thing at the moment for playing things from Band of Brothers or Private Ryan.
My choise is ‘The Battle of Britain Theme-End Title’,the longer orchestral version which the film closes with-for me it’s both a reflective and a powerful piece.
I was thinking it might also be helpful to make a mention in your requests of any BofB veterans whom you know, the people who select what tunes to play seem to like requests with a personal touch and I’d also like to think that it would mean alot the person you dedicate it to,I know alot of folks of that older generation often wonder whether anybody of the younger generations care-would be nice to prove we do.:)

It might be worth making contact with the Battle of Britain Society. I suspect they will probably be organising something to mark BoB Day, but not being a member of the BoBS I can’t say for certain. Perhaps other forum members may be able to provide details of BoB commemorative events which are being organised?

Just a thought, but perhaps those of us who can could post a photograph of something connected with the Battle of Britain. Maybe a gravestone, a Memorial, an archive picture, disused airfield, an aircraft, artefacts, log book entries…. you get the idea.
re: Ant’s suggestion. How about the theme from the Battle of Britain followed by ‘Hymn to the Fallen’, just to put it all into perspective.

Any other ideas for bringing the significance of Monday home to Joe Public?

I’ve been thinking for a few weeks how we can best comemorate BofB Day and I had an idea.Whether it’s a good idea or a crap one I’m not sure, but I thought I’d suggest it all the same…
I thought it might be a good idea to try and get something mentioned in the media about the anniversary. It would be good to get something in the papers or on the telly, but I can’t think how we’d do that.Instead,I was thinking we might get summat played on the radio.
Classic FM have a thing called ‘Lunchtime Requests’ on weekdays, where listeners email the show to ask for a particular piece of music.I listen to it occasionally and they play a huge variety of music for a variety of reasons. It seems to help if a number of listeners ask for the same or similar piece.I was thinking that if a number of us forum folk wrote to them asking for something on a Battle of Britain theme, then they might play something like the Battle of Britain theme or the theme of the Royal Air Force or something along those lines. The show has a large audience with a wide age range and I thought it would be just the place to get the Battle of Britain’s profile raised.I think it’s important that the BofB anniversary doesn’t go unmentioned in the media.
Lemme know what you think…
