Caption to the Wick photograph for Tim: ‘As I dived down on the Hurricane, like this, I noticed a woman waving frantically from her back garden….’

That German pilot really could bust out the dance moves!

It’s great to see these members of The Few being recognised and remembered 75 years later. The Few are getting very few now, we have only two surviving New Zealanders who were in the Battle of Britain now as far as I’m aware, Bernard Brown (in NZ) and Keith Lawrence (who lives in the UK).

Thank you for what you did, Tim, 75 years ago and beyond. None of you will ever be forgotten.

Dare I mention that you still have more hair than him?

Look like you don’t really need me!

That’s an image I haven’t seen before (Possibly “Don’t recall seeing before”)

Thanks, Moggy, but Oops!

We seem to have lost Wick for Andy.?

Tim

*******!! But, in fact, he saved my life by putting me out of action for the big raids.

Lovely image, Tim.

A well deserved audience. I hope HRH felt suitably honoured by it. 🙂

Sorry – it didn’t work the way it usually does.

Nothing a little moderator help can’t fix

The “youngsters” in the front row should really have given their seats to the veterans…:)
I hope they enjoyed their well deserved visit.

Oh Lordy, I don’t know their names, Please, can you oblige?
And then, surely there are more than seven?
I can grow old and disappear quite soon but they can’t, mustn’t, shouldn’t.

And this is the man who shot him down, apparently. I also gather that Tim was also his 18th ‘victim’ although I keep meaning to check out Wick’s claims to verify it. A nice image, anyway!

I never realised that Wing Commander Elkington was so tall! Must have been a tight squeeze in a Hurricane. Most fighter pilots, like tank crew, tend to be rather shorter in stature, rather like myself.

Excellent – thoroughly deserved, of course.

Moggy

After all they’ve done for this country the last thing they deserve is to be put in a room with those two! 😉

In all seriousness, good to see them recognised.

All the best

On top of it all, he’s a thoroughly nice chap (though his shallots are giving him trouble this year – see http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,79161.0.html and isn’t that the greatest avatar?), and a magnificent specimen of English manhood. Despite the years between them, I think my partner was quite taken with him! You are still a ladykiller, Tim!

Paul – I think I followed the identical track when I first read the book, not realising then that he was a highly esteemed member of the forum. A quite extraordinary story.
