You would be amazed at the amount of parts that were shared between different types of British aircraft in WW2…How well off are you for drawings??Was just wondering on what stuff would be shared with a Spit.

Wapiti
Here are the remains of a MK 2A Westland Wapiti that I found on one of my trips, looking for a home for these parts, I will swap for Battle stuff or swap for something of interest. I also have a reduction gear box for a Bristol Jupiter which is not pictured, we belive this Wapiti is ex RAAF A5-40 ex RAF K2265 , the engine tool box pictured is from A5-9 it has the serial written under the lid

Battle hyd. selector , throttle
Hi guys , hyd. selector is very similar to mossie , most likely made by same company , throttle quad is made up of two half castings with levers inside , the battle airframe manual does not lie !
cheers dave

…and the throttle quadrant looks more American than British…
…sorry Dave, hope you can prove me wrong!

Wow thanks for the pics.Keep going mate,it will be a long slow haul but you will get there..Get the workshop setup right and start swinging hammers.Believe me we started our project with much, much less and each small part built gives you motivation to keep on going..Good hunting mate. For BFP,s here in Auss I think Graham Smith down in SA is going to start up a run.

Battle may be interested to know that I was involved in a Fairey Battle recovery at Lamaronde, France, last year. I have another two Battle recoveries planned for the future.

Wow – they look just like the two Battle cockpit sections that the Midland Aircraft Preservation Society recovered from a scrappie at Lilleshall in the late 1960s.
After sitting in Roger Smith’s parents’ garage for some time I believe that they were eventually considered to be of little value and dumped at a scrappie near Coventry…
How times change!
Gordon – I thought we only got one cockpit section and there was a long, rusty pole with bits hanging off that we worked out was the front of a Battle elevator. I also thought the source was the abandoned scrapyard at Ketley Bank but might stand corrected on that one – it was along time ago.
Anyway to put the record straight the cockpit section wasn’t scrapped by us. It was exchanged with the team at RAF Leeming(?) who were working on the Battle that was recovered from Iceland(?) for the RAFM – the one that had the cockpit destroyed by the crew after forced landing. In exchange we got undercarraige parts to use on the Meteor F.4 which included IIRC a complete nose leg and wheel and a pair of mainwheels and tyres.
I did hear a story that Leeming, in fact, eventually scrapped what they had off us and I think the “rusty pole” was scrapped at MAM (by someone with initials MS) and I was a bit annoyed when I heard it had gone off in a skip.
Finally it was my next-door neighbours garage (my parents never had a car) – get your fact right Gordon or I WILL publish that photo of you and Ron Randall with the new fuselage side for ‘EGV :diablo: :diablo: :diablo:
Roger Smith.
