It’s a pity not all us licence payers (who pay for BBC 4) are allowed watch the channel.

get a digi box for freeview, it’s free to the tune of approx £60 odd pounds 😉

I understand your frustration, its a shame it cant be broadcast conventionally.

Upon re-evaluation, I really think this film is excellent until Franta leaves Czechoslovakia at the beginning and from when he returns. The rest I still find quite average give ro take the odd scene. Some scenes occasional have shades of ‘Closely Watched Trains’ and also of Giuseppe Tornatore films. Its once they get to the mountainous, pine forest covered Kent that the narrative seems to get a little stale.

I’d love to see war films cover on the bare reality of war, narratives that reflect the stories that I and no doubt others on the forum have heard from veterans rather than the bigglesesque stiff upper lip tally ho approach.

best regards, steve

Did I spot a peice of Memphis Belle footage in there as well last night?

Quite good, but a little disconnected at times.

JC

Yep – the B-17s crossing the coast.

That’s what I thought. Better final editing could have made it somewhat tighter. Good pace overall somewhat different to standard american fayre.

Missed Carmen Electra’s naked female wrestling though on (newly launched for freeview) Men and Motors. Bet Moggy didn’t 😉

Moggy secretly harbours lusty affections for Tara. I saw him once dribbling upon seeing her picture in the OFMC office!

Secret’s out, old boy – better explain it to Susannah! 😉

Totally agree…
It’s nice to see they do make films ‘like they used to’.

It is still far superior to any big budget offerings from Hollywood etc. Nor would they have included that delicious bit with the girl and the joystick!

Still has the bolted on love triangle narrative. I think the thing that interests me most about the film is the treatment of the pilots after the war.

My opinion of it first time round was pretty low, maybe another watch tor re-evaluate would be worthwhile.

Superb movie – much the same as Damien says, but try and get hold of the DVD if you can, there is a great little montage of dogfight footage set to the theme tune, and excellent “making of” stuff.

Spooky. I only mentioned to Moggy on Saturday I hadn’t seen this film. I’ve heard good and bad things about it – what’s your view?Hopefully I can commandeer *my* Freeview box from the uncultured masses and watch BBC4 tonight. I feel a bout of selfishness brewing :diablo:

BlueRobin,

Well I don’t think Tara Fitzgerald will usurp Susannah York in the affections of Moggy but I consider DBW the son of ‘The Battle of Britain’ – a damn fine film made on a very tight budget.

Well worth watching, if for nothing else, to see the out-takes from ‘BoB’.
