Thank you, Ian….
Nah! Must have been another bloke with a similar name.

It was shame T1940, however I noticed that Andy Saunders was mentioned in the credits, and the penny dropped, it wasn’t professionally made was it ? 🙂

It was great going into that shelter! A real step back in time.
Some of the stuff that ended up being cut because of time constraints was really moving and interesting stuff and it was a privilege to be there and be involved – even if it didn’t all make it in the final cut. Only so much you can do in 30 minutes, though.
For me, getting the RN museum to bring Jack Mantle’s VC along and film it with a veteran of Foylebank above the very spot in the harbour where the action took place was a real lump in the throat and hairs standing up on back of neck moment!

Well I never did. An old family friend of mine lives in the house in Shirley that Don Smith lived in. I cleaned that air raid shelter out a few years back. I wonder if she watched it tonight?
Very good prog by the way, but far too short.

A good programme, my only gripe, it was not long enough 🙂
We spent a good couple of weeks, on and off, in filming it so a lot of really good stuff had to be chopped.
Yes, would have made a good one-hour programme.
It will be repeated on BBC4 on 21 September.

That’s why I thought it was the first of a series.

Ahhhh… was working late and missed it.
Not being shown on iPlayer either for some reason. 🙁
Heard it was a good programme….

It went from Dorset to Kent. Started in Portland and ended up at Capel-le-Ferne and Elham Valley….which were both in Kent last time I looked!

Erm! A bit confused. It said that the program was going from Devon to Kent but it only got as far as Southampton and I can’t see another program next week. Sky plus doesn’t recognise it as a series either. Any ideas anyone?
I thought the program was very interesting by the way, especially when the handle from the Hurricane was dug up and given to the pilot.

Thanks for the info. I must admit there are so many things on TV at the moment about WW2 etc that I am getting a bit lost! Whenever I see anything coming up I get the old Sky box to record it but I missed this one. Looks interesting.
Perhaps someone should start a thread about WW2 progs that are coming up soon (if there isn’t one already of course) on all channels, not just BBC.
