BBC2 – Flog It – 14th December '12

Just to advise that I caught five minutes of this programme which was filmed in Lincolnshire. It looks like a new episode.

The presenter spent a while at East Kirkby, interviewing Fred P and exploring the Lancaster.

There was lots of archive footage of Lancs, coverage of the newly opened Memorial and the obligatory mention of post-war controversy, accompanied by the usual garbled facts, etc.

Fred mentioned the return to airworthiness of NX611, hinting that it could be within a year.

It’ll no doubt be on the iplayer later on for anyone who wishes to catch up with it. 🙂

You can always count on a tv programme to get it wrong!
NX611 will not be flying within a year, there is no date to start on the restoration but we know it will take 18months when we start. Take a look here for more info, scroll down to the bottom for latest news-

I am told by some one working at east kirkby it will be flying with in 18 month’s:);)

If it does, I wonder if it will be transferred to the BBMF, or kept at East Kirkby ?
It would surely cost a small fortune to keep airworthy ?

flog it

nice to listen to FRED PANTON talking about his brother CHRIS (KIA Nuremburg 31 03 44) and showing some photographs .

there was no mention of the fact that his brother was flying with 433 (RCAF) HALIFAX Sq from SKIPTON ON SWALE HX272 .

The first item on the programme featured a pair of metal models which clearly depicted a Mosquito and a Hurricane – although the owner assumed the latter was a Spitfire. The valuer admitted she knew diddly sqat about aircraft types and so hadn’t the expertise to correct the error so the presenter persisted in identifying the item as a Spitfire

The last time I saw “Just Jane” which would be possibly 4 or 5 yrs ago. in the condition she was in then, I doubted it would ever be airworthy again.
Perchance since my visit, a miracle has happened, I hope so, as I for one would love to see another Lanc flying again.
