I dare say that this has been broadcast elsewhere before but it’s the first time I’d seen it. I cannot overstate just how touched I was by the bravery of those Guinea Pigs featured and the incredible foresight and talent of Archibald McIndoe.
I’ve had dealings with a couple of “Guinea Pigs” over the years and in an age where heroes seem to be measured by goals scored or cash earnt, I think the world at large could all do with a poignant reminder of what true heroism is (forum members here excepted), especially given the hero theme of the other thread currently running.
On a slightly separate but relevant theme, can anyone supply me with details of the badly burnt chap from the BoB film (The one who speaks of his burning Hurricane to Susanah York) – the name escapes me. I always assumed it was Tom Gleave but I remember the credits gave a different name?

Isn’t the Guinea Pig in the film Bill Foxley? He seems to have become the one people talk to – I’ve seen him several times on the tele in the last few years. Has to be one of the sprightliest octagenariens I’ve seen.
Incidentally he was in a Wellington when he was burnt – I believe he escaped the crash, then went back to retrieve a trapped crewmate. Wonder how many of us would be bold enough to do the same?

That chap’s name’s been mentioned on here before but I can’t get any sense out of the search engine.

I saw that a few weeks back when it was on and it was a good programme. A friend of mine, whose Dad is a Guinea pig, was disappointed as he thought the ‘pigs came across as too serious and what got them through was an incredibly sick humour that took no prisoners. I would imagine such things are now not politically correct and so was passed over.
However, according to him, it was the jolt that many people needed.
still well worth watching.
