BBC's beginner's guide to Journalism

I was shown this video today, made me laugh. Sums up BBC news rather well.

Universal and now, ‘doesn’t raise an eyebrow’ dumbing down.

Should ‘dumbing down’ be considered for inclusion into the Olympics? You wouldn’t have to worry about doping – it’s endemic !

He missed the bit about leading the dozy populace, by the hand, since they can’t be trusted to understand what’s going on. We must, therefore, have a flood report delivered by someone who has donned wellington boots, and walked into the water, since we are too dumb to guess what running water looks like.
A report about bad weather has to come from a knee-deep snowdrift, or a harbour wall, with the attendant danger of being blown away (oh, please.) Also, unless the report is delivered from in front of 10, Downing Street, we can’t possibly recognise that it concerns our Prime Minister.
Anyone else noticed how they all seem to be “editors,” or “deputy editors,” not reporters any more? Bet that came with a pay rise.

Brilliant, observational humour!

I love Charlie Brooker’s writings and TV work. The Screen Wipes and “How TV ruined your life” were just brilliant. Haven’t yet got around to seeing Black Mirror though.

Steve

It was very funny and I wonder why it was never repeated. Too near the knuckle I expect! One of the cast was a young and unknown Benedict Cumberbatch.

Very good 🙂

There was a comedy series on a few years ago, where they parodied news
and weather reporters, Broken News. The one I liked was when they took the mickey out
of the short lived trend, for news readers delivering their stories while standing up.

being able to clearly speak is quite another…. few announcers and presenters articulate,.

How very true!

Dressing it all up is one thing – being able to clearly speak is quite another. Apart from the fact that few announcers and presenters on either radio or TV speak at a regulation ninety words a minute, few articulate, that is, move their lips and tongue in such a fashion as to form words correctly and clearly.

Perhaps I need to invest in a bigger ear trumpet.

That brought a smile to my face.

It a bit like how Top Gear stick to the very same format, with polarising filters, cars overtaking, close-ins of the wheels, etc.
