bbmf 17th May

Hi,

I was jsut running through the BBMF flying display list for 2003 and came across an entry for May 17th for Eyebrook Resevoir. As it is the 60th anniversary of the dams raid on 16/17th May i just wondered if there was any link here at all. Did 617 do any practice runs here aswell as the ones in the derwent valley?

thanks,

steve

ps- Theres no derwent flypast this year 😡

Hi Ya,

17th May is a working week-end, but what the heck! I’ve got the phone number of the person who’s organising it, so I’ll see what the crack is. I know they’re building dams to be attacked by model aircraft. It should be fun. Unfortunately Freddie won’t be ready, so I can’t take part!

Hi All,

Get yourselves down to Brooklands Museum, 16-17th May. They might only be models, taking part, but should be quite interesting.

Snapper, on a slightly different vein- just got a video from DD Videos, called RAF Attack. Don’t know if you’ve got it in your collection, but there’s lots of Typhoon action (even shows their airfield being shelled at the front line!), worth an investment.

Cheers,
Neilly

Crikey! Makes sense I suppose though, with the huge level of interest and number of people who would attend any such flypast, it’s bound ot be a major problem for such a little area; it’s not exactly an airshow venue, after all!

We’ll have to build a wooden dam or something and truck it around the airshows for the Lanc to buzz over!!!

Apparently, according to Paul Day, the last time the BBMF did a Lanc run down to one of the dams the ecological damage of the visitors who came to watch was immense. hence they haven’t been asked back.

Quite sad really, wonder why no one thought about booking the Lanc for the flypast. Mind you, whose “responsibilty” would it have been.

Does anyone have any pictures of any of the flypasts from last time, would be great to see.

Best regards, steve

As I understand it, the Lanc’s hours for this year were all booked and alotted by the time the issue of Derwent came up, so it was just too late.

A proposed hangar-dance at the BBMF for the Dams raid has also been cancelled, due to lack of interest!
