Just been listening to the BBMF Lanc on Doncaster 126.225, and it seems they’ve had an engine problem mid flight on their way to Old Warden, and have had to shut it down and return to base.
Hope everything’s ok.

As the issue is dealt with, and the thread is heading off topic, it is better to close this now.
Move along, nothing to see…

Defiant
An airworthy Defiant is something i would definitely pay to see:rolleyes:

Not a bad idea and they’d be better off swapping the Lanc for a Gladiator and the Bollingbroke as it’s nearly a Blenheim and do they really need that Dakota? It’s only a financial drain, after all in these times of austerity they really should be true to their name and only be a Battle of Britain flight!;)

Have always loved the Lancaster, but for me its a Bomber Command Memorial Flight :D.
Therefore sell one of their Spitfires, then recover and restore the Dalcross Defiant… far more fitting for the BBMF ;):diablo:

The Lancaster missed the Battle of Britain by two months!;)

Actually a Lancaster flying with the BBMF would probably confuse the hell out of the uninitiated!

Remembering that it isn’t the only air worthy lanc and there is an outside chance we may see another why not just use it as a hangar queen and get a Shackleton up again? 😮
The words BBMF might be a clue as to why the Lanc is maintained in airworthy condition rather than a younger cousin.

Or just poach four Griffons and pretend it’s a Shackleton instead! :diablo:

BBMF have plenty of other Merlins lying around their hangars, just poach one out of a Spitfire and hope that no one notices!

Seriously though, glad all are ok and hope the problem isn’t too bad to fix.
Still hoping to see the Lanc again at my local airshow in a couple of weeks. 🙂

Oh dear, yet ANOTHER Shuttleworth display cursed with dreadful weather…
Well, I’d hardly call it dreadful weather! A few spots of rain but otherwise fine for the airshow.
I wondered why there was that gap in the flying; it would have been nice to see the Lancaster. Hope the precautionary engine shutdown resulted in no serious damage to the engine; always better to be safe than sorry. 🙂

Oh dear, yet ANOTHER Shuttleworth display cursed with dreadful weather, it must be 2 years since they had a stable, hot, summers day!
It was a lovely hot day at the July military pageant!

Still, there might be some dramatic photos with very dynamic cloudscapes !

But I bet they can’t change one as fast as the guys at McLaren though. 😉
I wouldn’t know I don’t have Sky 😉
Saw the tweet and glad it was only a minor issue and the Lanc and crew are all safely on the ground

RAFBBMF RAF BBMF
Just checked with the Boss. As a precautionary measure lanc engine was shut down after an oil leak. Sorry for delay but needed to get facts!

I’m Sure it was over/near Sheffield This afternoon. Only got to see it at a distance but i’m sure it was there.
It was, and it was about that time I got the call from a friend in Barnsley who was monitoring Doncaster.
