BBMF Lanc question

I was browsing through some photo’s of the BBMF Lanc recently and noticed that there is what appears to be a small ‘slot’ in the underside of the tail unit, which I’ve never noticed before. Can anyone tell me what it is??

Just curious, and surprised I’ve never noticed it before now!
