A possible series of flights over Lincolnshire.

Might one of those be with the Vulcan?

Is this just in time to be grounded for the maintanence at Duxford or has that been cancelled.Seems strange doing all this work to ground her again and it could’ve been done at the same time.
Just speculation but probably a couple of test flights then bed for the winter and do anything outstanding at least on the plus side she has saved a lot of flying time for future use.
Not sure about the Area 51 hangar as nothing seems to be happening yet at Duxford but cheapest time to get building work done is in the winter anyway.

According to Fluffy who i believe would know [ although that thread is a year old] Oct 2015 http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?129916-BBMF-Lancaster-planned-maintenance-2015 -post 12 , just seems strange if this is still the case.

Some good news
Lanc Update
This is the last one and I am pleased to tell you that the repairs are finished. She is in tip top condition and ready to fly again which should happen Monday weather permitting. I would like to thank everyone who was involved with the repairs Airframe Assemblies for all the panels, Retro, Track & Air for the engine bearer and subframe and Supermarine Aero Eng Ltd for the pipe work and engine control items. Lastly Cpl Carl Broomhead and his team who took it all apart and then put it all back together. Paul B

Thank you for the reply Piston, I’m sure it was a most enjoyable place to work!

Do the engineers get posted to the flight as part as there normal RAF career or do they request a posting to the flight?
It’s normal to volunteer and you can be held on a list, but it’s not unknown to get the posting in your workflow.
I joined the RAF to work at BBMF, and after 13 years on the list, I was second in line. Then they scrapped the lists with the introduction of JPA. I got a secondment there in 2005/6, and 3 attempts by BBMF to keep me on a permanent basis, sadly all failed. It’s a real lottery at times. I enjoyed working there immensely.

According to Martin Withers interviewed on Chris Evens Breakfast this morning, the Vulcan is doing a flypast too.

Even if (as is more likely) the Lanc will not? make the Lincoln event on Friday. there is still the Blenhiem 3 Tornados, 3 Hawks and a Tutor! down to do flypasts
Tornados are from 9,12,and McRoberts Reply from XV(R) Sqns I believe

Hi Tim, any info on times for these flypasts or where aircraft might be operating ?

No date or update on here http://www.phase2planning.co.uk/projects-commercial-Aircraft-Restoration.htm
Lifted directly from that site….
“The new hangar will primarily be used for the major servicing of The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fighter Lancaster aircraft which is one of 3 remaining aircraft left in the world.”
….very poor. If the Contractor can’t be bothered with accuracy in a press release, with regards to the subject matter of the Client’s business, it hardly bodes well for the future of the working relationship.

This section gives an insight to the engineers. Some are now full time reservists who stay with flight and pass on their expertise. http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/thecrews/bbmfengineers.cfm

It’s not just about the aviators 467, the engineers are full time.

Not a bad job really, flying Typhoon during the week and Spit’s and Hurri’s at weekend….
By: CADman - 28th September 2015 at 17:30
Even without the Lancaster this year the BBMF must have been busier than ever, with the six fighters being seen all over the country at events large and small, as either singles, pairs or on several occasions all six. I do not know the facts but the hours flown by the fighters and thus the extra hours of maintenance, not to mention the pilot hours really deserves recognition thus year. Well done BBMF and all who work and fly for them. I guess some would says its just another job, but it is a job which requires long hours and lots of weekend work. Thank goodness that they take pride in their work and go that extra mile so we can all enjoy seeing them still fly.

Maybe the Lanc being out this year has helped cast the limelight on the fighters.
It is BoB 75th after all.
