BBMF not in Trooping Flypast 12/6/12

Apparently from Facebook BBMF page this morning…

“Just had a phonecall from the BBMF Warrant Officer, BBMF flying today is all cancelled due to poor weather. Sorry Ladies and Gents. Kelly”

For info when a strong cross wind exists at CGY, the BBMF fighters (only) are authorised to make use of the 12/30 strip (“part of”one of the other original three WWII runways at CGY)

The BBMF Chipmunks are the only aircraft authorised to to used the grass strip located infront of the crash bays & new control tower

The Dakota and the Lancaster can only use the main 26/08 rwy

Kind Rgds

I was thinking more along the lines of the preseved RAF Bicester project.

Might be ok for the baby aeroplanes, but with a max runway length of about 3,300ft (in the direction requiring either departure or final approach over the town), it’s a bit tight!:D

If they operated off a nice grass airfield it would be a 26mph head wind = no problems. Tarmac is overrated, unless is been raining for more than a day or so. 😉

Or deploy to Cranwell (2 runways – although the second maybe a bit short for the Lanc/Dakota!) on the Friday if the wind’s looking dodgy for the weekend.;)

They sometimes do operate from a grass strip, though it’s parallel to the main runways at Coningsby…

Yep last I looked its a 26mph crosswind, out of limits for the BBMF

Saw a Hurricane fly over Hucknall at about 13.30 this afternoon. At first glance I thought it was LF363? And what I believe was a P40 has just finished an excellent display over Hucknall airfield.

It’s a bit windy up here in Lincolnshire today (bad direction too!), perfectly understandable.:)
