I had the last week off work so decided to get out and about a bit to catch a bit of historic aviation. First up was the BBMF at York’s National Railway Museum on the Saturday. They were there as Carol Vorderman was naming a loco after the flight. Due to traffic I missed the fighters’ solos but caught the Lanc and the formation flybys:

Next bit of aircraft hunting was my first visit to RAFM Cosford. I’d been looking forward to this for a while, having never seen the Valiant, Belfast and several other aircraft on site before.
The test flight hangar first:
The super-shiny Bristol 188
Prone pilot Meteor
And not a great pic, but I had to take it for Jim (Lincoln_7)!
Outside found the Nimrod R.1
Compared to when I saw her last, at Waddo less than a year ago
Then to the Cold War hangar, a building which has I know courted some controversy. But I have to say I loved it!
Sabre
Vulcan on the edge
Lindy’s sister (far too clean!)
The Lightning going ballistic looks fantastic. Well done to those with the imagination to create this whole exhibit.

In Hangar 1 Mr. May patiently awaited more glue for his plastic Spitfire
Outside, it felt very strange seeing a Hercules consigned to a museum.

Looking over at her, an earlier generation RAF transport, the mighty Brit
Needing a wash perhaps?
Next up, a trip to the seaside to see some of Hawker’s finest…

Nice pics mate.
Really enjoyed the Hurricane display. It was worth the trip just for that 🙂

This weekend saw the first airshow at Cleethorpes. I elected to go on the Saturday, and I reckon this event shows promise despite the Lanc, Buchon and Red Devils not being able to attend. I did have to laugh as, despite the clearly marked crowd and display lines, one numpty photographer decided it was ok to set himself up at the far side of them. I had to take this photo of the security guys with their high speed persuit Gator about to pounce on said numpty…
The yellow float thingy marks the display line.Expect to see him on the centreline of the runway at an airshow near you soon!
On with the flying, and after the opener from the Tucano, HAC’s Hurricane gave a frankly brilliant display

There was also an interesting display by a Gyrocopter, the pilot of which we were assured was wearing a CAA approved luminous orange glove, waving for the use of!
And finally, the Hawker Nimrod. This also gave a lovely display and looked great out over the Humber. However I struggled to photograph it sadly.
Oh well, back to work this week… 🙁
