I was fortunate enough to watch a lovely flying display by P7350 at Bournemouth yesterday, but having witnessed the engine failure of Sea Fury VX281 at CU in 2014, it got me thinking… I guess ‘P7’ must be the most valuable Spit of the BBMF fleet (if not the world) and I’m surprised they allow it to display over the sea – if the engine did give up, the options open to the pilot would be limited, with ditching in the sea probably high on the agenda leading to the loss of a very valuable Spitfire. At least an engine failure over land would give the pilot a chance of a forced landing in an open area.
Any thoughts? There must be some Spit lovers out there!! 😉
