Can anyone recommend any books covering the history of the Beagle Aircraft Company and the Norman Aircraft Company? The story of the collapse of the Beagle company is well known but the development of the B206 & B121 series seems less well covered? Particularly interested in the design & development of the Bulldog, Pup & Bullfinch range of aircraft and the NAC Fieldmaster.

I thought the water bomber version was called Firemaster, but it was a long time ago.
Your time and trouble, comments and observations much appreciated.

Hi there,
I do not think the ‘Firemaster’ was ever adopted as an offcial title. Looking at an old 1984 NDN press release for the scoop system, the aircraft is still referred to as the Fieldmaster.
Seem to recall at the time hearing a story that the scoop was yanked off during early ‘scooping’ trials…..Someone not quite getting the stress calcs correct or so the story goes!
Attached is a G/A of the firebomber installation.
Cheers, Chumpy.

Anyone know if there are any Fieldmasters still in service?? Last I heard some years ago was that a couple were in use in Turkey?
Done a bit of digging on Fieldmasters and found out that
1 G-BNEG D 6001 NAC-6 FIELDMASTER
2 G-NACL D 6001 NAC-6 FIELDMASTER
3 G-NACM D 6002 NAC-6 FIELDMASTER
4 G-NACN D 6003 NAC-6 FIELDMASTER
5 G-NACO D 6004 NAC-6 FIELDMASTER
6 G-NACP D 6005 NAC-6 FIELDMASTER
7 G-NRDC D 004 NDN-6 FIELDMASTER
Of these c/n 6002 G-NACM and G-NACN c/n 6003 were exported to Turkey.
The others are temporarily WFU except G-NRDC which was canceled by the
CAA.
Who is or was EPA Aircraft Company Ltd. of London SW13 they were the
last owners of ‘CL ‘CO & CP?
Total times to 31/12/97 were ‘CL 814 ‘CM 1403 ‘CN 1280 ‘CO 279 ‘CP 543
So they were out and about does anyone have any photos of them?

The Midland Counties BEAGLE book is ISBN 0 904597 00 8 published in 1974 and is a complete production history and a much treasured item in my library.
Good Luck finding one!

Good to see it’s still active. Paint scheme looks better since I last saw it, pity about the canopy mod though!! (It might have been like that when I saw it in the US?)
Peter Masefields Autobiography now on order!!

Joe, any chance you could PM me the title or ISBN number for that book and I’ll have a go at tracing a copy, it sounds just the sort of thing I’m looking for.
Roger, I’ll see if I can find Peter Masefield’s Biography. It’s something I hadn’t thought of!!
Any other suggestions??
Anyone know what happened to the Bullfinch prototype? I saw it about 15 years ago at an Airfield near Tampa, Florida and initially mistook it for a Bulldog as it was in a mititary paint scheme. Would be nice to hear if it still exists.

Midland Counties Publications published a history of Beagle, with individual histories of all the aircraft produced. I have a copy but it must be at least 20 years old and long out of print

Biography of Peter Masefield (can’t remember title off-hand) might be worth a look.
