Beagle fly in to Shoreham for 100th anniversary of Airport

Last weekend Beagle aircraft from all over the country descended on Shoreham in a fly-in to mark the 100th anniversary of the Airport, which was where one of the Beagle factories was situated. It was a great sight to see so many lined up on the apron again, including the North Weald-based Bassett. The newly-restored B206 prototype was also on display.

To mark the occasion, the SkyHawks Formation Team performed a seven-ship flypast on Sunday afternoon. For two of the pilots this was their first solo sortie. For this flypast I was in the Cirrus camera ship taking pictures on three different people’s cameras!

To end the afternoon, we then made a special two-ship Bulldog formation to honour Nicholas Myer, the former Beagle Managing Director. Sadly, he has had both legs amputated so the Shoreham Airport Fire Crew kindly helped get him in and out of the aircraft. We flew down to Beachy Head and back in wonderfully calm conditions. The big grin on his face at the end of the sortie made a brilliant end to a great day.

And I got to fly the Pup back to North Weald too.
