Beaufighter question

This is going to sound a really stupid question, but I am not too familiar with this aircraft. My father has just started building a model of it and I noticed he’d put the second crew member at the back facing forward. Thinking it was a gun turret i said ‘shouldn’t he be facing back if he had a gun’? Dad said he doesn’t have a gun.

So what did this person do in the rear of a Beaufighter??
