Beech 18 crashes on I-95

Hi all,
Just a little snippet of news from Florida.http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/sfl-flbplane0922nbsep22,0,616530.story

The pics of the pilot still strapped into his seat are unbelievable…how the hell did he survive this.
Cheers
Kevin

I never heard of planes making a mayday to land on a highway (Motoway) beforecould they do that over here?

A Southern Airways DC9 did exactly that in 1977

The pictures of the pilot sitting there looks like something out of the TV show Lost! Are planes built like cars and designed to specifically crumple in the even of a crash as it seems the cockpit crumpled away from the pilot and left him in his seat mainly untouched?
