Belgian Air Force visit to the UK in May 1931

Help required in identifying the unit of the Belgian Air Force that visited various UK airfields including Cranwell and North Coates Fitties on the 6th May 1931. The unit was flying the Fairey 11m Firefly and was led by the head of the Belgian Air Force General Gilleaux. I am particularly interested in the unit involved and the serials of the individual aircraft

This is the report I initially saw, the other for May 22nd shows the Breguets lined up at Manston upon arrival so I reckoned the type is bottomed. I cannot find any other source of information relating to this visit which was obviously fairly high profile at that time. I contacted the Belgian Air Museum some time ago for information but never received a response

If this is the report (at bottom of page) then, yes, your initial date is correct and the stay was quite lengthy –

Given the dates, I wonder if it was more likely to be the Fairey, Hayes produced machines rather than those built in Belgium.

My apologies. I have now found a Flight Global report for May 22nd 1931 where the aircraft are shown as the Bregeut X1X which solves the problem of dates. The report also mentiones a week long stay which is more in keeping than two days. The questions remains the same though

Hi mothminer
According to my records the date is correct. the unit spent two days in the UK touring a number of airfields in the south then on to North Coates Fitties and finally Cranwell. The original report was a Flight Global report but in view of the material you have attached this seems not to be the case. Maybe the original dates have been transposed and should be 5/6/31?
Regards

Hi airfield

Are you sure of the date for the visit as according to this page –

http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1931/1931%20-%200718.html?search=belgian

the Fireflies don’t appear to have entered service with the Belgian Air Force until later that year.
