Just how many of the Belgian pilots who flew with the RAF during the war won the DFC?
There’s a uniform up for sale on E-Bay (Ends Wednesday 21st April) with Belgian pilots wings and what would probably be a very distinctive medal group including a DFC
Snapper – you might want to take a look.

Certainly was about 1942.

Donnet wasn’t in 609, and I can’t recall which Sqdn he was in – EN830 would know. I’ll maybe have a look later for all the Belgians from 609 who got it – there were more.

Snapper…I’m presuming from the ease at which you have rattled off names, these gentlemen are/were all 609’ers, is this correct? If so, was Donnet in 64 Squadron at anytime?

Just before you part with your hard earned cash…..
The BD jacket is 1949 Pattern, introduced then and in service up until the 1970’s. The small pattern RAF pilot’s wings are quite scarce and often/usually repro. I’d be very careful before shelling out what will be over £200.

Hello,
59 Belgians had a DFC.Some were members of the SAAF.Two Belgians had the DSO
About E Bay’s uniform,it’s a battle dress which was abandonned mid fifties. It’s a Major (BAF) uniform. As it wore a “médaille du prisonnier” perhaps is it possible to determine the name of the man.I’ll try and will come back with (perhaps )an answer.

Sqn Ldr Henri Gonay had the DFC. His medals ended up in Canada.

It would be nice to think of it going to a good home.

Quite a lot. Off the top of my head, without thinking, Mike Donnet, Cheval Lallemand, George Jaspis, Jean de Selys Longchamps…
Smashing ebay item, but out of my range. Still, I know someone who might like it!
