Ofcourse, difficult for me not to mention it. Another all-Belgian grand slam final (US Open). This time I wanted Kim to win instead of Justine to keep the balance steady between the Dutch and the French in our little country! Kim is still number one though, followed by Justine.
And a bonus, a 17-year old Belgian girl named Kirsten Flipkens won the junior grand-slam :D.
Feels good to hang the tricolor out of the window again.

Actually the fact that she has the physique and the mental fitness to play so many tournaments give her the extra points. She has less time to rest and practice than the Williams, so yes I think she diserved the n*1 position. Apart from that, Martina Hingis also wasn’t good at Grand Slams, but still she staid number one for more than a year.

Gef,
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see the Williams sisters stranglehold on women’s tennis broken. But I’d much rather it be broken because they were played off the court, not because they are injured. It was said on UK tv that Clijsters is only number one by virtue of the fact that she has played more tournaments, apparently they get points for wherever they finish in a tournament. She is number one by accruing more points from lower place finishes than by winning any tournaments. The commentators were questioning whether anyone can be rightly considered to be world number one without ever having won a grand slam tournament. Henin-Hardenne has won two this year yet is still only number two.

Kevin, the Williams sisters are good, admitted. But both of our girls are numbered one and two on the world’s ranking, and both of them also defeated the Williams sisters. Venus is already on her way back, Serena is still a big challenge, but Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne defeated here already a couple of times, only it lasted untill Paris when they beated her in a Grand Slam.

They were both in Paris Kev and didn’t win either??
Looks like Serena is ready to be slaughtered. Lots of meat after taking far too many steroids. ;).

Celebrate while you can. It was only an all Belgian final because the two best players withdrew.
I really must learn to read posts properly, I could have sworn you wrote “Feels good to hang the TRACTOR out of the window again.”

Nah, you wouldn’t survive living together with the walloons. Apart from the language, there are too many differences between the Dutch and the Flemish. 😀

These are the times that it sometimes crosses my mind that it is a shame that Belgium is a separate country, luckily this doesn’t happen often.:D
