Sorry to post this one, but couldn’t help but notice these “believed to be from a B-17” items up for auction.
Not stated that it’s a repro item, so it ‘must’ be true. Odd how the skinning resembles an airliner though. Comments…?

Even giving the seller the benefit of the doubt…
All he, or anyone, would have to do is look a a photo of a B-25 or B-17
(I’m sure they are on the web:rolleyes: ) to see that its not from those aircraft. Not even close.
I would hope any seller, even if he’s selling if for a “friend” (you get that a lot on ebay…it seems to happen anytime authenticty is questioned or something is shamefully over priced), would take a moment to verify what he types into the item description under his ID before posting it on the worldwide web. After all, it is a binding contract and I’d think any seller would want to avoid the troubles that would come with an ebay fraud or misunderstanding.
BTW: I wonder if he wondered why anyone would put nose are on the roof of an airplane?
One one hand, whoever decided to label these items as coming from any warbird ought to be ashamed of themselves, but also anyone foolish enough to buy one (obviously no one who is on this forum or who has ever seen, let alone read, a copy of FlyPast) as a genuine WWII relic without checking their authenticity probably deserves to be sold “a bill of goods”.
It looks like someone assumed that ebay buyers have never seen Antiques Roadshow…

I told him yesterday that what he had, at best was 737 portions and reproduction art work…. this is the reply he sent me…
Hi,
Thanks for your comments. I was asked to sell these items some time ago and spent quite a bit of time researching these items and advertised them on the information supplied by various sources inc Imperial war museum. I have received various comments since listing regarding these sections (all conflicting) and as i know very little about aircraft one has to be guided by those who you would think knows best. I have revised these items accordingly

Hes updated his listings:
“Please note:- I have listed this item in good faith on the information I received from various sources. Since listing I have received various conflicting info regarding the authenticity and origin of the aircraft section. Therefore please be aware when bidding that i cannot gaurantee the items history or the identity of the original aircraft from which these sections were taken.”
Maybe hes not so daft after all.

Just noticed that he recently sold the book Spray Can Art, Id say hes been rumbled! There are very similar characters in Spray Can Art to the painted ‘Thunderbolt’ rudder section aswell, surely cant be coinsidence.

‘The Avenging Angel’ is not a bad bit of artwork…even if the ‘canvas’ is bogus!
Pity the seller couldn’t just say these are…what would you call them…’tributes’?
The starting bid of £50 isn’t bad…the artwork alone must be worth that.
To use the expression of the times…’nice piece of tail!’ :diablo:

Dave, dont worry, my sense of humour has caused me too much trouble in the past, so now I find its safer to the take the mickey out of myself :diablo: I dont upset anyone then. “Moons” image is the wrong way round, along with the windows, not enough bomb raid markings to name the most obvious eff ups. Er… didn’t mean that. I just wanted to show the ‘real thing’ for comparison, although i must admit i didn’t notice the lady was the wrong way around… 😀

Pathetic, yes. Misleading, certainly. Taking the p155, hopefully.
He must think we’ve all came down in the last shower of rain… Especially when you see his other items!
I give up…

Or has someone infiltrated our happy go lucky forum?
Very funny I should mention a B-25 and it gets changed.
FAO the watching seller from ebay.Though the CAF Mitchell did have the same nose art (Albeit better executed) the camo was a diff colour buddy. 😀
By: Peter - 8th August 2007 at 15:40
he changed it
He was advised by IWM that it is B25. Yes the artwork might be but it is a cockpit from a commercial airliner
By: Arabella-Cox - 8th August 2007 at 15:38
Whoa… that was quick. Item description changed, it’s now from a…. B-25 Mitchell.
hummm….

buyer beware
This is the biggest crock on ebay I have seen to date! I sent him a message that this is not B17 it is replica nose art done on sections of commercial airliner!
