Bergerac Bf 110

Does anyone remember an episode of the Jersey based police detective series “Bergerac” back in the late 80s where there was a story line about the discovery of a German plane in the sea with the pilot still in it?

Divers went down to it and as far as I am concerned…….

The “plane” looked VERY much like a VERY genuine sunken Bf110….and VERY intact and VERY uncorroded looking.

I can’t imagine for one minute that they would build a mock-up Bf110 for the programme when “any old aeroplane with Swastikas and Iron Crosses on it and chucked in the murky sea” would do for the vast majority of the audience.

It is available on video I have just discovered, called “Late For A Funeral”.

Anyone know anything?

Cheers
Mick

Why don’t you throw this over to Ren Frew who hangs around the ‘General Discussion’ group. He works on TV productions.

Maybe they did build a mock-up for it? Very interesting, though.

I wouldn’t imagine they’d film the whole thing out at sea. All kinds of considerations would have to be taken for boats in the area. Very likely a deep pool was used with filters on the lenses, or even a lake, with the mock-up bunged in. Sounds as though the BBC art department didn’t do much technical work on the mock-up, if it was “very intact and very uncorroded” looking!

I’d be interested to hear more. Maybe worth contacting the BBC?
