The airshow started with this pass dropping red, blue and white.
Unfortunately the red and blue had dissipated by the time the white came out so this was the best picture.
It went down well with the crowd

I was at MAKS with you, Ken, sat next to Colin on the bus. I’ve never been so cold in August in all my life! The security checks were thorough – they even confiscated the fruit juice drink I got from the hotel!

The A-40 is quite simply my favourite Russian built aircraft and has been since I first saw one in the early 90’s!
I agree, it’s much nicer than the Be-200 – longer and sleaker.
It still ‘does a turn’ at Gelendzhik…..

Not forgetting the much larger Beriev A-40 Albatross that came to Fairford some years back

Are there any western built, jet powered amphibious aircraft that could at least match the Be-200?

Great photo report!! If that was the worst MAKS you have been to and you did that, what on earth would be the best?:diablo:
Has to be the 1993 show where the An-74 was barrel rolled, the Tu-160, Tu-22 and Tu-95 did a stream take off and the Russian Knights did their display right over the top of the hangar where we were all standing on the roof. As they went up in formation they fired off the flares which caused more than a few hearts to flutter given that it was only six weeks or so since the MiGs had collided at Fairford.
Later shows were good but that was definately the best.

I had a flight in a test ship at Gelendzhik in 2008 – we flew in formation with RF-32767……
Full story – and more photos – here.
A number of Be-200ChS’s are in service with Russia’s EMERCOM (MChS) – and they have been trialled fighting fires in France, Greece and Portugal – but so far, no firm western orders.
Papa Lima & Jonr – what day did you attend MAKS – the Be-200ChS was in the static on Friday & Sunday when I went….
I agree – it was the worst MAKS I have been to – rotten weather and very poor display.
Ken
Very interesting: thanks for sharing

Not to my knoledge…
Japan did build some amphibious aircraft post-WWII but I don’t think any of them were jet-powered

With the bush fire season about to begin here we sure could use it down under

Be-200 operated in Portugal and it would be great to see them here often; see them in service in PoAF would be amazing; perhaps in the future…

I have an almost identical picture, we must have been standing within yards of each other! The only decent photo I managed to take at MAKS, which I found to be a great disappointment. No more expensive trips to Moscow for me!

Amazing sight, why isn’t this aircraft used in the West?
