Bernard Chabbert has died Thursday 15 december 2022

….and another one has left us… 🙁 ;-(

Over time, he became the owner of various aircraft, from a Piper J-2 to an FK-14B microlight to a rare Lockheed L12 Electra which would star in the film Amelia, about Amelia Earhart. His son Antoine, who became an airline pilot and owner of a PT-17 Stearman, regularly presents the Electra at meetings, the family collection being based in Andernos.

Bernard Chabbert is still the voice that animates, each season, many air shows, from that of La Ferté-Alais, where he has provided commentary since the 1970s to that of Duxford for the Fighter Collection or even the Melun-Villaroche meeting. Recognized character in the aeronautical world, Bernard Chabbert will leave the image of a passionate about the things of the air… He will certainly be missed by the aeronautical cause in the years to come. ♦♦♦

Yes sad news and wish him blue skies. Unfortunately, like the others, not suitable for Legends but you have to respect the choice made by the organiser it was his show which, very sadly, now appears lost. I haven’t attended an airshow at Duxford since and have not renewed my IWM membership as they have completely ruined Lambeth, IWM North is total rubbish and have got rid of Legends.

French journalist, author, pilot, and THE voice of France’s aerial gatherings. I have researched about this guy before, but the data you provided is in French. I also found several forums with more information about Bernard Chabbert. He was a great enthusiast, and put a lot into historic aviation.  His occassional ‘unusual’  partisan views were, if nothing else, a good talking point!  Legends seems to be in the past now, and Bernard too, but those displays were unmatched, and he added his very own distinctive flavour.

Yet another one with the same views, although my wife liked him.

However, certainly a loss to family and friends, and the French aviation community.

I’m afraid I’m in the same camp. But his is nonetheless a sad loss for the community, especially in France.

His commentary style was known as ‘Chabbering’ at one time – one of my pet hates is airshow commentators who do not keep quiet during display/flypast.

Like Trumper – not trying to upset anybody – one can only speak as one finds !

…. I cannot understand the spoken French language very much,

but he sounded a lot better in his “native tongue” when he commented at French airshows

I attended… 🙂

Bernhard’s commentary voice was more powerful and succinct at La Ferte Alais meetings de l’air.

At Flying Legends shows I tended to doze off when he was on the microphone…

I feel sorry for his family and friends but i have to say he irritated me with his commentary, sorry don’t mean to offend anyone but just my point of view .
