Best Airlines in the World: My Own List

Hi World,

I travel widely across the world. I would not say I love flying but I always miss flying when I am not flying. Hope you understand what I mean. I have compiled my own list of the Best Airlines in the World based on my personal experience during the past four years. Here we go:

BEST AIRLINES IN THE WORLD:

1. Anssett Australia (International)
2. SAS
3. British Airways
4. Finnair
5. Singapore Airlines
6. Emirates
7. Jet Airways (India’s domestic carrier)
8. United Airlines
9. Air France
10. Lufthansa

SAS and Finnair do not offer great inflight service but they give tremendous importance to safety and baggage handling. SAS will do better by bringing in younger crew. Singapore lacks class. United is amazing. How can they run such a big airline so well? Lufthansa is very German – solid and correct! Emirates radiates a lot of positive energy. Jet Airways is probably one of the best domestic carriers in the world – great safety, great food and very warm crew. Air France loves flying. Finnair has a class.

And, now, the Worst Airlines in the World

1. Royal Nepal Airlines
2. Bangladesh Biman
3. Aeroflot
4. Air India
5. Cubana
6. Turkmenistan Airways
7. PIA
8. Iraqi Airways
9. Syrian Airways
10. LOT

If you do not agree, please try to fly them. I know there are more worst airlines, including two in China and many in Africa.

Let me have your reaction.

Narendra

Many people say that the service on Lufthansa is just great, but I too found that it wasn’t. There seems to be a great difference between long-haul and short-haul or domestic flights.

What I really like about them is that they are mostly very punctual and that the safety standard is quite high. I don’t always like the self-image they are promoting, kind of that it is a honor to be flying Lufthansa. They also have a charter service called Condor which is, as far as I know, a whole subsidiary of Lufthansa. I’ve heard that their service is even worse on short flights. I don’t know but I can recommend Hapag-Lloyd who have very modern machines (B737-800) and a good service.

When flying SunExpress which is owned by Lufthansa and Turkish Airways I decided never to do so again. The plane was ok, but the service awful. We flew right through a thunderstorm and I got sick. The stewardesses found it beneath them to take the bag away to I had to sit there with the smell for more than an hour. It was a wonder I wasn’t sick again or any of my seat neighbours. Maybe it was just bad luck but it didn’t give me a very good impression of their service.

I dissagre with SAS as number 2, their service/crew are not exactly “passenger friendly” as much as their marketing deptartment would like to think.

2. British Airways
3. Continental
4. Crossair
5. Lufthansa
6. South African
7. Air Canada

RE: Best Airlines in the World: My Own List

Hello Everybody,

I do not intend to give you my own top 10 of the best and worse airlines but just a few words based on personal opinion.

Olympic Airways (the Hellenic flag carrier) is one of the best companies one can fly. Departures are on time, fares are competitive related to other airlines in the competing markets, in flight entertainment is averagely good, safety records of the company can be rated in the top 5 of 6the world, in-flight catering is top 1 in the world, cabin attendants are welcoming, there is a frequent flyer program and business class has high standards.

The worse airlines I ever flew were Alitalia and Iberia; bad service, bad food, delays, non welcoming personel, baggage trouble when making connections and so on.

RE: Best Airlines in the World: My Own List

Well you seem to be on your own there about your views regarding British Airways and QANTAS. I was just wondering you said that you like Air 2000, but there service is nothing when compared to the delights of the like of Thai Airways, and many more of its fellow Star Allience members.

QANTAS is not spelt Quantas, it is QANTAS.

I was wondering if anyone out there has flown Sri Lankan Airways (Air Lanka).

Thanks

I put cubana third in my list because when we flew malaysian airlines, everytime someone opened the toilet door i had to cover my mouth and nose for ages until the smell went away. Aeroflot the service was jus unbelievable. lookily the mas flight was only kuala lumpur- penang, but the aeroflot flight was lhr- moscow.

RE: Best Airlines in the World: My Own List

I noticed that no-one has put in about charter airlines so I have done a seperate scheduled and charter airline section:

Best Airlines (in order):
Scheduled Charter
BA Britannia
Thai virgin sun
Emirates Air 2000

Worst Airlines (in order):
scheduled charter
Malaysian Monarch
Cubana JMC
Aeroflot

Airtours was alright but like all the other charter carriers except Britannia and Virgin Sun you had to pay for drinks (at very high prices).
Monarch is an airline that there is no way that i will ever fly again, as is cubana and aeroflot.

Does anyone ever been on Sri Lankan Airlines (formerly Air Lanka) because i am going from LHR to colombow at the end of november, and i don’t have a clue about their service.

RE: Best Airlines in the World: My Own List

I have travelled with a number of international airlines, which include a number of European and Asian carriers. The favourite two carriers of mine are Emirates and British Airways.
Emirates is the international airline of Dubai and has personal entertainment systems for all passengers, and a high quality of inflight service and a multinational cabin staff.I really love them like anything.British Airways is very professional, has great food and flight attendants, and has an impeccable safety record. They provide personal TVs and phones on an increasing number of flights on longhaul services. The overall level of customer care is above average.BA and Emirates are the best so far.Lufthansa is goog, but not quite as good as BA.Royal Jordanian try quite hard.Air India used to be reasonably good, but is not quite what it used to be.Air Malta needs to brush up it’s customer care. The worst so far is Indian Airlines.Avoid them like a plague, and fly Jet Airways to know the true meaning of Indian hospitality and short haul comfort.I have not tried any American airlines, as I prefer BA for transatlantic flights, but I hear that their standards sre not much to talk about.

I would say that KLM (the national Dutch carrier) is the bestairline I have flown on. There IFE was Reasonably goood and there food was exelent. They even gave small children ‘Fun Packs’ to last them the flight.

I Have also flown on Northwest Airlines but they are not very good.

My best airlines:

KLM
El Al

Worst:

Transavia (nearly no food, you nearly get no drinks (not even if you ask for them, small aircraft, you have to pay for alcoholic drinks, and even for the earphones!)
Any Russian airline (don’t really trust their aircraft AND their crew, just can’t forget those numerous near-accidents, where it appeared the pilots were drunk and/or didn’t get enough training)

I have flown Portugalia many times since I live two hours away from Porto Airport and the cabin service is indeed remarkable, but crews are arrogant, ground staff unefficient, management a bit disorganized and fares terribly high. On the other way they never answer to complains. Cabin service superb but other elements……well, well…not good.

No-one mentioned Portugalia!
I flew with them back in 1997 when they had just received the at the time brand new ERJ-145.
Fan-tas-tic!
Great plane, luxurious in flight catering, cabin crew that were so good looking they belonged on a catwalk and not in an airplane galley, very very friendly.
Another favourite is British Midland for its overall importance.
I also like the ANA business class.
Worst of all is Virgin Express. Every terror you can think of, they have it and practice it with a lot of dedication.

RE: Best Airlines in the World: My Own List

I think there are many discrepancies in this point, since oppinions are simply that. Each person tends to evaluate only the aspect he/she considers more important. Thai service is great but ground service is quite ineffient. Air France is quite good but crews tend to be really arrogant. AS far as Iam concened
I appreciate good service since I assume all the airlines I have flown and fly are safe, and efficient.

Best:

-Lufthansa.
-Swissair.
-British Midlands
-Varig
-Royal Jordanian
-Spanair
-TAP
-Tunis Air
-Iberia
-Defunct. British Caledonian
-Crossair

Medium (they´re ok), The rest: Airlines like LOT, Corseair, Olympic; Aerolineas argentinas, American Airlines, Egyptair, BA,
Air France, …and so on.

Worst

-Cubana.
-TWA
-USairways.
-Air Europa
-Servivensa
-Indian Airlines.
