My best are
Britannia before they became Thomson. The days of 360 service and you got given fox’s mints before take off.
United Airlines, all inclusive bar onboard, great entertainment, lovely aircraft.
My worst are
Air Scandic, A joke of an airline which was always delayed and we were delayed 10 hours from Manchester to Malaga even though there was an L1011 waiting on the ramps.
Thomson, Staff can be very rude and unfriendly these days and like Thomas Cook the care has gone.

Best and worst airlines flown with
Two years ago flew Newcastle-Dubai-Perth & return in Y class as it used to be called. Excellent service from crews on all sectors. We were delayed outbound from Newcastle and late into Dubai. They held the A340 to Perth for us, got us transfered quickly and efficiently through security, and our luggage arrived at Perth same time as us.
Last year flew with Air Malta. Clean, tidy, efficient and on time

Best – that would be Ryanair.
Worst – that would be Ryanair.

Anyone flown Air Koryo? Wouldn’t mind giving this airline a try I believe the inflight entertainment is pretty good.
See youtube link: Good old Ilyushin Il-62’s.

Malev: BUD-LHR in 2009. The hottest jet ever, with no meal and just one small, inedible triangular sandwich and a paper cup of sickly orange juice. Also, the cabin crew were minging heffers!
This sounds like my experience of Alitalia. I have never in my life been given such ghastly coffee to drink by such surly cabin staff.

Sorry, my mistake. I went out on BA from LHR and then back into LGW with Malev.

The worst has to be:
Malev: BUD-LHR in 2009.
Malev haven’t flown to Heathrow since late 2006.

Couldnt fault Virgin Atlantic on flight to St Lucia and back..Both aircraft and crews superb..

Best: Malaysian LHR-KUL in 2006. Great service, excellent IFE, -HOT- female cabin crew, although the 737-300 from KUL-HKT was on it’s last legs with lots of surface corrosion on the wings!
A close second come Singapore, followed by Cathay Pacific and Thai.
Also, I highly rate Bangkok Airways!

I try and avoid Ryanair whenever possible, although when I have been with them they have been on time and got me to where I needed to be. I just try and avoid them because I don’t like the way they do business.

ANZ is generally thought to be very good.

Once flew from the UK to LAX on AirNZ, can’t tell you if it was a good or bad flight as they had unlimited (free) Steinlager & Bundaberg rum.

When the mods decide to close this thread an analysis of the overall best and worst by members would be interesting. I note that BA appears in both categories. Is this because the overall experience varies so much or that each individual’s perception of service quality differs considerably?

Had my first encounter with Ryanair recently…
May i add it to my worst airlines list please! 😮

Hmm….. difficult one
Best:
British Airways: Food was always good, crew always professional and polite. Service always on time.
Good:
Monarch: Friendly crew, surprisingly good food.
easyJet: Friendly crew, clean aircraft, usually on time. Cheap too
Excel: Great cabin crew and funny flight deck folks.
Aer Lingus: Professional crew, ontime performance, snacks priced reasonably
Flybe: Ontime, clean aircraft, happy crews, and a good selection of snacks at reasonable prices.
BMI Regional: Fun flights, almost empty both ways. Attentive crew.
Bad:
Ryanair: They changed my booking and then wanted cash (double the original total fare!!) to re-book with what I originally wanted!
Worst:
Thomas Cook: Ridiculously short leg room. Spent 4 hours on a 757 sat at an angle (8 hours with the return flight included). If I sat straight, my thighs were longer than the allocated space! I’m, 5`10 so by no means too tall. If I wanted to sit straight, I had to undo by belt and lift myself partly out of the seat.

has to be what was the old BMI long haul based at Man
ok i only flew once cattle class to Antigua and back, but service was excellent.
worst i guess was thomas cook last year, too many seats crammed into 757-300, one 6 foot 5 guy who had lost his return extra leg room seat to victim of the ski slopes, could not physically sit down in a normal seat!!!!
but on the brighter side, in 90 min hop from Turin to Gatwick they managed to supply us all with breakfast and drinks, just about!

I always enjoyed the Suckling Airways from Cambrigde to Amsterdam because it took me back in time to when small was rather beautiful! I presume John Suckling and his airline are long gone…………..

Best : Qatar airways , hands down
Worst : Ryanair no question
By: Tartan Pics - 14th March 2011 at 11:04
Best: Emirates.. just oozing class, even in cattle class 😀
Worst: British Airways of course, truly truly terrible airline and onboard staff 😡
Had enjoyable flights with Air Asia on short haul, good fun flights!
also one of my best ever flights was on board a Garuda A300-600, unbelievable leg room, great service and excellent food on that one.

Best airline/airport…Porter Airlines, Canadian regional airline based at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, which is also a great airport to fly to/from, and I would urge anyone who wishes to visit Toronto to try to use this airport rather than Pearson International, you can be in the city centre within 15mins!
Worst airline…British Airways; SEA-LHR…I did not think World Traveller Plus was worth the money paid for the upgrade and the crew were really rude, and MCO-LGW…managed to get an exit row seat so I could stretch out a bit, however, cabin crew managed to run-over my foot with the trolley (…whilst I was trying to sleep!).
Worst airport…close call between LHR and LAX really, both are a bit of a nightmare.

Add Alitalia to my ‘worst’ list, please. A shocking airline.
By: FLY.BUY - 12th March 2011 at 19:42
Quite enjoy the SWISS BAE 146 flights in and out of LCY, Full throttle power for take offs on the short runway and steep descents on the return leg for the landings.
