I think Honolulu International is by far the best with it’s open air walkways between terminals
As far as worst goes i thin my least favorite would have to be McCarran, it’s so noisy with all those slot machines

It does not compare with Brussels for ease of viewing or number of eating and shopping places.

Of course it doesn’t compare with Brussels, does anything? 😉

I have to disagree with you Heathrow boys in regards to T3. I find both T1 and T2 much worse from an ergonomic standpoint than T3. At least you can see something outside the windows when going down that long corridor to the gates at the very back.

No Hand, I mean T2. When I was last there, in 2002, we ended up eating in a basement cafe among the airport staff, it was a pizza place because there was hardly anywhere else. We found one small window where we could see passing aircraft, but it looked as though it had not been cleaned in years. Our aircraft was delayed and we ended up waiting in somewhere resembling a dungeon. It does not compare with Brussels for ease of viewing or number of eating and shopping places.

You would expect a facility in Paris to be better served for eating than CDG was. It’s a shame really because I think Air France are great to fly with, but using CDG as their hub would put me off flying long haul with them.

Well it changed much since 2002. I agree that 2A and 2B wren’t that gret but they made big efforts to improve everything.

2D and 2F have nice duty free/ restaurant area. As for 2E ….
 😀

Several are good and bad in my opinion.

Good – Birmingham for having an indoor viewing area and a brilliant shop to go with it. The only let down with Birmingham is poor eating facilities. Manchester has a great view from the departure lounge, and the cafe area. Brussels, just for being Brussels really. London City – everything you expect in a larger airport, but on a smaller scale. This great little gem has it all!!

Bad – Paris CDG for hardly any decent eating facilities, very few places where you can see the aircraft, very few shops. Antwerp for being a dead and alive hole, where you cannot see aircraft, there is only one small cafe and only one shop staffed by a couple of geeks. Bad point about Manchester is the Lancaster Brasserie where the waiters treat you like sh*t.

You certainly mean CDG1 since T2 is the opposite.
FYI , CDG1 is facing a 4 years repair phase. The terminal will be close partially (25%) every year.

Like:
Copenhagen
– nice facilities, efficient, great and cheap train connections to both Copenhagen and Malmö on the other side of the Öresund Strait, customer friendly, nice personnel and all-round pleasant to pass through.

Dislike:
Stockholm Arlanda
– looooong walking distances and no moving walkways, expensive bus and train connections, and last and definitely not least the unfriendly and power-hungry people working for Falck, the company responsible for security at the airport. I feel sorry for tourists coming to my country when the first and last thing they meet are these robots who think everyone from a child to a pensioner is a threat. We’re not all like that up here!

Regarding Heathrow, I have split feelings. As an aviation historian I love the airport – history is evident everywhere and you can still here the roar of VC10s and Tridents if you listen carefully 😉 but as a traveller I’d avoid it as much as I can. It’s a labyrinth and I wouldn’t want to get lost in the underground tunnels between the terminals when I’m in a hurry…

Worst: Funchal, Singapore

WHAT!!!! 😮 Do you have data supporting this argument?

All Greek airports are the same, so I now know what to expect, and yet airlines still operate 767s, Dc10s, 747s etc. into these wee airports! 🙂

Can’t argue with you there. ATH was among this breed, as well, till they opened the new one. Considering these airports only handle decent sized traffic during the summer, it really isn’t all that feasible to build top notch facilities on every island. We have Olympic venues to worry about finishing! 😉

LAX, it’s a zoo. So over crowded and the security and bag screening is a nightmare. You have to queue up to get your bags x-rayed then wait to identify them before queuing up to check in.

That is standard procedure everywhere in the U.S. now, Skycruiser. You must be specifically talking about the Bradley Intl terminal, seeing as you fly for Cathay. I agree that terminal is a zoo. But you really can’t expect anything less. It handles 90% of the International traffic out of LAX and really has no ‘dead time’ throughout the day. If you use one of the other 8 terminals, it’s not nearly as bad.

Based on just my experiences over the last year:

Worst – UK: Nottingham East Midlands – huge queues, full of peasants, hopelessly inadequate facilities, hugely expensive car parking

Best – UK: Birmingham – pleasant and quick experience, especially in the Eurohub (but why oh why did Duo have to collapse? What a shame!)

Worst – other: Algiers – hot (no air con), endless mindless security, queues, no politeness from anyone, no facilities other than hard and uncomfortable chairs and a minute duty free shop. Close second worst – Dubai.

Best – other: San Francisco – excellent international terminal, 30 minutes from my international flight blocking on until I was in a hotel, including going through US immigration, baggage claim and customs and getting the shuttle bus. Pleasant departure facilities including no queues for checkin, nice lounge with views over ramp. Close second best – Athens.

Best: Antwerp: nearly no traffic so it’s always calm and you can check in untill 15 minutes prior to departure. Only one small shop.
Brussels: Clean, Modern, a very trendy terminal, a check in hall that releases the stress of travel.
Stansted: Great facilities
Tenerife South: nice building
Almeria: nice building, great viewing facility, but can get crowded.
Worse: Monastir: Dirty building and make sure you dont get robbed, staff that don’t speak English and little French, runway full of holes

I will join those who consider Changi the best airport.

As for the worst, I am sorry, but it has to be Heathrow. The shambles of arriving after an overnight flight into either Terminal 3 or 4 and transferring to Terminal 1 is a complete turnoff. Like a lot of folk from this area, I would rather use Schipol as a hub
if I can’t fly directly from Glasgow
