Having been to Matlock. I visited the Mill of Sir Richard Arkwright, and was amazed at the length of the workshops, and all the shuttle machinery, all worked by a watermill to provide all the power.
I think the invention of these factories are worth a mention.

Actually you have hit the nail on the head there, some of the surgical operations that first took place in the 19th century are without doubt the best inventions.
I would have hated to have been in the Royal Navy during Nelsons day, when limbs had to have been amputated without anaesthetic,I know where you are coming from with your reply James. We owe these Surgeons a lot;)

Was the flushing toilet ‘discovered’ from the animal kingdom?
Yes, in the outer reaches of Namibia a particular breed of Snow Posum was discovered during the 1800s, they lived in large colonies, complete with rudimentary flushing toilets in seperate latrine areas. Unfortunately now extinct.

If you go back many posts you will discover it lost its way a long time ago.l I think the OP then gave up and said anything counted!!
Yep, I did, as most of my Posts do, get out of hand, so I thought, rather than keep drifting off topic, throw it wide open,
Still gets out of hand though 😉

This thread is slightly confusing, most things posted on it are either not inventions and are only discoveries (PMN,Bruggen 130) or fall outside the 20th century (usually by several hundred years!) So I gave up and handed it to Mr Crapper ( I did add the word ‘ever’:p)

I seem to remember some years ago the best invention ever (in the world), was decided to be the flushing toilet.
Invented in the 19th century by Thomas Crapper!:D
