Cheers fella – we did consider that!!!
Phil tells me that the colours on the black ‘winder may have indicated its origins with 74 Sqn – it is plastered with squadron stickers including many Lightning ones – can anyone tell me whether they were fitted to Lightnings (not my era y’see) I thought they only had firestreaks and red tops…

Or possibly 111 squadron.

By: RPSmith - 22nd October 2006 at 00:54

If you can’t buy ’em you could make your own:

Shouldn’t this be in the Missiles forum? 😉
A Sidewinder measures 9 foot long and so you’re not as short as it first seems TC 🙂
With those on the airfield I’m definately not going to bust the overhead! Got a launcher set up yet? :diablo:

Does everyone not have one of these in their garage? 🙂
First acquisition for the SIDF (Scottish Independent Defense Force) :diablo: :diablo:

when i was an air cadet we got a firestreak out of the dump at halton, put it in the back of a raf ambulance (ford transit) to get it back to the accomidation block up the hill.to get the thing back to our own HQ at the end of the camp we threaded it through the coach and it had the back seats all to itself.it’s now on display outside 134SQN HQ at cardington, beds, and can be seen from the road.
I see that all the time and often wonderd if it was real or fake.

I would have mounted them to the side of your Transit van.Would have made the cars that were about to cut you off think otherwise….Could have been worse.Could have been a Phoenix. There are inflatable missiles I have seen being towed behind a pickup that look pretty awsome.Good additions mate. Thanks for sharing..
Is the Hamster available for guest appearances yet?

Screw the law – I’d be more than happy to have been given a document producer for a Meteor 🙂

A quick look in Butterworths Road Traffic service distinguishes between a ‘mechanically powered conveyance’ and ‘wheeled accomodation’ mon ami – on seatbelts, depends on date of manufacture of said conveyance, in the same way that one could travel in a Willys Jeep under tow, which didnt have seat belts fitted, I imagine you could argue that the 1951 Vamp is a ‘mechanically powered conveyance…’
🙂 ( tongue firmly in cheek)

D’you know I always wanted to sit in a cockpit, whilst being towed along a public highway; sadly it is illegal, in the same way that being in a caravan whilst under tow is. A copy of this thread has been sent to the crown prosecution, along with Bens confession.
Incidently , possibly one of the reasons it is illegal, is because the seat harness’s, whilst capable of keeping you safe in a 500mph A/C, don’t comply with the British Standard for motor vehicles, for use on the Queens highway. (made that last bit up, oh, and the first bit as well)
