3rd March 1943, 173 people died on the steps to the Underground at Bethnal Green in what was the worst civilian accident during WW2 here in the U.K.
There is a ongoing project to build a fitting Memorial to the victims of that night.
This will eventually be situated in the small park right next to the Underground steps.
The TV presenter Tommy Walsh has now become involved and is Patron to the ‘Stairway To Heaven Memorial Trust’ – the organisation trying to raise awareness and funding for the Memorial.
