Some pictures from my trip out today if anyone’s interested
The Beverley (obviously)
Also the Blackburn Replica.
Interior shots of the Beverley, first one’s from the clamshell doors looking forward, second one’s ‘Upstairs’ looking aft, third one’s from a porthole upstairs looking out across the massive wing, fourth one’s from the front of the bottom deck looking aft.
Also some of Hunter XF509, formerly of Humbrol, looking a whole lot better than when she was gracing Hedon Road
Hope you like.

Just Jane NX611 sat in salty Blackpool air for a long time, corrosion happened when the flaps were left down exposed and nothing was done at all ,but she survived. So I think the Beverley will be ok until funds for a roof are found. After all there are custodians actually interested in working on the Beverley.

The 2001 NAHR edition lists XB259 as – Significant; plus it was still resident at The Museum of Army Transport!

The Fort Paull Beverley is one of those cases where it would be fantastic to have a national fund in place that could put a roof over its head to prolong this unique survivors life.
How is it listed these days, ie national benchmark?

Difficult to quantify -certainly the air at Fort Paull is certainly ‘maritime’ so the long term future of both airframes remains to be seen . The Fort Paull machine has been cut length ways so it isn’t as structurally intact as the former machine at Hendon was. As for the ownership of the Beverley at Hendon – as I understood it , it was stood on RAF land for a long time and was in their ownership -when the RAF decided to relinquish the land the Beverley was effectively going to be handed over to the RAF museum until a detailed survey was carried out.

I wonder how the airframes are holding up to the ‘salt-laden air’ that all the doom and gloom so-called professionals were expressing such venom over and using up vast amounts of magazine articles a few years ago when the Beverley first moved to the Fort?
It certainly looks in better condition than the RAFM’s one!

Yep there was a car show on, think there’s another one in september, will let you know closer to the time if you like. Was there with the B, she’s not really a shiny pampered show car, more a workhorse, but hey i’m not bothered. The guys there are doing their best to look after the Bev and very proud of her. The Hunter too…

Nice shots Blue 2. Good to see the inside is still in good order. Ive been to Fort Paull a couple of times but not since the Beverley has been open. This aircraft was one of the things that got me interested in aviation, calling into see it on the way to and from the caravan at Hornsea. I would have tryd (pain in the …. to get to) to make it through this weekend if I had known there was an event on. Were you showing the MG.
Pushing the limits of staying on topic I know but….. Does anybody know what happened to the Rino (a sort of military monster truck) after the Army Transport Museum closed.

THE HUNTER F6 AT PAULL FLEW WITH 54 SQUADRON AND IN THE EARLY SIXTIES WENT TO THE BRISTOL AIRCRAFT COMPANY TO ACT AS CHASE PLANE FOR THE FD2 CONVERSION AND DID THE SAME JOB FOR THE BRISTOL 188 RESEARCH AIRCRAFT

Actually, thinking about it ‘most’ still there’s probably inaccurate. About half the front offices and 3/4 of the main warehouse are still there. The site has been well and truly pikeyed many times.

Sad. And all the products are made in China!

Ex gate guard, RAF Chivenor. Think it turned up early-mid 90’s. Most of the factory’s still there, just boarded up, offices torched, sort of half-derelict.

Well, that is extraordinary. I suppose it shows how blinkered I had become in those days when the aircraft enthusiasm had been subsumed by dogged commerce, assuming the Hunter was there in those days. I was visiting Humbrol regularly during the 80s, early 90s. Where did the Hunter come from and why? I just took a “street walk” down Hedon Road and saw the remains of the factory, now I presume all gone.

It was right outside RH, facing Hedon Road. Sure I’ve a pic of it ‘as was’ somewhere.
Edit- found a pic of the poor thing after Humbrol went t*ts up

Nice pictures, Blue. Always had a soft spot for the Beverley and as for the Hunter – well it’s all in the name, isn’t it?;) I had no idea there was one at Humbrol. I used to visit the factory – where was the Hunter?

Never saw it sadly. I know family of the Fort’s owners, will try to find out what’s happened to it…

Is Bulldog XX557 still there ?
.
By: Blue_2 - 26th April 2010 at 11:39
…as an aside, I think the chaps at Paull could still do with the back halves of the Hunter’s ‘Sabrinas’ as the originals were pikeyed, so if anyone’s got any and feel generous…:D

Talking of Hunters. There used to be one on the roof of the Vanguard Removals building on the side of the A40 going into London, does anyone know whathappened to it? The last time I saw it it was being dismantled.
Its stored inside the buildings here, alongside their Lightning F6 and a Vampire T11 pod, noted here in January.
