“Last night I was doing a bit of spotting at EDI. At around 18:45 I was approached by a cowardly thug, the guy was claiming to be from the ‘UVF’,
he was dressed like a complete casual thug. He held a large hammer in his hand and threatened me with my life (Irish accent), he then told me to give him my items so I had no choice but to give him them. My cam-corder,
scanner, mobile phone and bincoluars were all knicked. Right now I feel absolutely terrible, It’s seems unreal.
I now have to seriously think about my future as a planespotter after what has just happened, one thing is for sure, I won’t be at EDI regularly anymore.
My advice to anyone is to avoid Turnhouse (beside the railway,) or Kirkliston (secluded area).”

“The incident took place on Monday night. Did anyone happen to see anything? Jamie is a young male (age 16-18) who frequently visits EDI on
his bike, and was over by the railway line when the incident occured.”

I would rather be beat to death with a hammer than hand over my stuff without a fight.
Sorry boys, I have to agree with my boy Wrenchbender here. I’m not one to advocate getting in a fight by any means. However, I aint gonna’ let some thug take my $hit like that. If he was packin’ heat, different story. However, being ‘strapped; with just a hammer, I would have felt the need to call his bluff.
If that sums you up remember to remind me before booking never to fly United.
.You know what Andrew, I’ll take the liberty and remind you. Please don’t fly United, ever. Given your fondness to easyJet, perhaps one day they’ll start flying trans-Atlantic, as well.

Joe, if you could contact Jamie and invite him along on saturday, perhaps we can coax him back. Having a few people round might make him fell more safe and get his confidence back.
I’ll try… 🙂

Its such a shame. I don’t even have a pair of Binos, let alone a scanner.
But I certainly would donate, if I did have something to donate
Your sympathy is sufficient…. Jamie will appreciate it..

What you heard is malicious mischief, I am still recovering
from the theft of Scanner/Binos/Phone from my car..
Blimey, not you as well ? 😮 Not a good time for spotters, if only the same level of police interest that afforded, sorry disrupted… my GLA visit yesterday was around at EDI. 🙁
As the saying goes “Away and catch some real criminals !” 😡

Is it true that a certain Mr Curry has offered replacement equipment to the aforementioned young Jamie ?
If so, well done sir 🙂

It might be a good idea for folks with spare equipment to donate them to Jamie though..?
I should also point-out that young Jamie is 16 years-old..
No income whatsoever…

Whats so special about it? New Airline? Does it have CFM-56 engines? Is it Cargo?
I didn’t say anything was special about it.

If you ever been around DC-8’s You use a BFH ( Big Fu#$ING Hammer ) on everything. Yes! Don’t fly United. I’m glad someone’s listening! Violence and Avionics are a bad combination.
LMAO!
I’ll check that out. I’ve been invited down to london for the roll out of a cargo DC-8. That is, once its painted in a design I helped with.
